New Carpet on top of old.
I want to get a new carpet and install it, I cant really afford any new sound deadening and the old stuff that is in my car is just about ruined when I take it out.
Does anyone think that I can put the new premolded carpet on top of the old on?? Anyone think I will run into any problems with doing that??

You can probably get cheap sound deadening material somewhere. No use paying $150+ on a nice carpet then cheaping out in the end. I doubt it would fit well just because of the bulkiness.

I did the very same thing about two weeks ago on my IROC-Z
I was in the same boat as you and didn't have the money for something like dynomat so I re-used the origional carpet and put the new (well, new to me
) carpet over top. You're going to want to trim the old carpet along the sides - especially around the door area's so that when the 2nd carpet is put in, it doesn't stick out to much and interfear with the door sills, kick panels, etc.
I also cut out the section by the gas/break pedals of the origional carpet 'cause I was worried that two carpets would stick out too much and cause pedal clearance problems (not allow the pedal to be pressed all the way in to hit WOT)
It took a while to get everything lined up correctly and smooth out all the edges and creases, but I think it was worth it. There was a noticible decrease in road noise.
Click here for pic's: Scroll down to the bottom. You'd never know there were two carpets

So, you would suggest it. Thats good to know that someone has done this before me. I was thinking the same thing, why not. Theres nothing wrong with the one in there except for the fading and stains. Do you feel a "lump" near where you cut away for the pedal clearance?? I was thinking about not cutting that away and seeing if my pedals will all not hit the floor.

Can't feel a thing since the area that was cut is BEHIND the pedals.
Like I said, I wasn't too sure whether the two carpets would cause problems with the gas/break pedals so I just went ahead and cut the first carpet in that area. There's no harm in trying to put both without cutting, but it would kind of suck if it ended up causing clearance issues and you had to pull them both back out.
Your call.As far as whether or not I reccomend it, hey, I'm satisfied with mine but there are people who probably wouldn't want two carpets in their car. It really is up to you. I've had no problems with mine and as I said it did provide me with some additional sound insulation.
Probably next summer I'll pick up some Dynamat when I have the cash.
Good luck. Let us know it it turns out.
Ps.
Keep the factory sound insulation (the one that's glued to the back of the carpet) on the origional carpet. However, if your new carpet also has insulation, everything might not fit 'cause it would all be too thick. I don't know.
The second carpet I put in was just the bare carpet.
