They had purple Camaros in 92. But I've never seen a purple bird. Post up a pic and I may be able to photoshop it.

i have a purple 82 t/a(pic link below)

it is old plum crazy solid

they did a good job and they did it all correctly,
they removed the door panels and the lights and everything when they painted it,
and they painted all under hood nice no overspray mess,
and kept all the GFX and spoiler and bumper vents the correct black

but i dont like the color at all, i dont think it looks very good for this body style, but apparently its just me...
because before i stashed the car out of general view( a couple months ago) several ppl a week would be coming up here asking to buy it,
i got sick of it and so i built a shed and i rolled it in there lol.

it was originally light blue metallic

and it wil be going back to that original color after replacing metal, some day.

but first i will set it up mechanically,
which wil require a good running 305 engine, and long headers, and a stock radiator,
then i could drive it again,
i already convertd it from the thm200c over to a 6" th350 out of a 77 chevy G20 van i parted, i had the engine from the van in it too- and i rigged open manifolds and an 87 4 cyl s-10 radiator in it- to drive it around the block a few times, heh, and it wasnt too bad
it only has 120k original on it, i since then pulled the 350 out and left the th350 in it for when i find a 305 for it, the 350 went into an 84 c-10 pickup i got with a 350 in it that was knocking, then i traded that truck off for the 81 c10 that i have now- that i used to have a coupe years ago,

chassis and everything is in real nice tight solid shape,
lady driven

i only have one pic right now and its too far away to see it clearly
the hood is so beaten with sun that its dull powdery chalky, i hauled the car from casper wyoming a few years ago, i guess the sun up there in higher altitude is even worse ?
it beats down hard and HOT here all spring summer usually, so i cant imagine how much worse it could be anywhere else, hum..

http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...85&uid=2269104

i think that the 92 style DARK purple is million times better than this type of purple, its just not right, its too colorful or solid or something, like a cartoon, hmm.. but ppl sure do notice it and want it,,

also a step uncle(no jokes) of mine had a light beige `85 base v-6 camaro that he fixed up and painted purple
it looked better being purple than the t/a does, quite a bit
its something about the body style...
but he did paint the maro just a hair darker purple than my t/a is
this was like 8 or 9 years ago now,
way before i went and rescued my t/a from across country,.

so i dunno..

personally i vote no on purple birds, unless maybe really dark purple,

i couldnt find anything on google images searching for a purple third gen bird,

hummm..

hope ive helped somehow or other(probably not lol)

good luck

Purple... Hmmm...

I could see a 3rd gen being that funky purple goldish colour that I've seen on Alero's before. (At least here in Ca.) That's a bad *** colour.

Any shade of purple would have to be heavily pearled and extremely dark...

I don't know. My '84 Bird is a high gloss black. I think all of the 3rd gen's look better as darker colours. One of my best friends recently got his painted, but his a dark red. Not burgundy quite, but a dark dark dark red. Not maroon either.

Just my .02!!

smith, what year/model is your purple one ??
what kind of purple is it ?

apparently im finally no longer the only one with a purple firebird third gen

its not kjust darker colors that look good on these

one color that i think that looks freakin awesome(on the 82 83 84 birds anyways) is the light silver gray

very sharp!

like this one:

http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...9104&members=1

droooool!

i will paint my 82 t/a this color if i dont go with the factory light blue metallic,(if i can ever find out what the color code for this silver gray was)

if anyone can say thats not a beautiful T/A then i dont know what to say other than get new glasses lol

and almost any color looks good if its shiny nice flawless

but on alxtre's bird with that big huge 85-up nose and everything im thinking a darker color would be best yeah,.
its already a lighter color right now and i dont think it looks right,
i dont evne think light silver gray would look that good with that nose and hood either,
black or dark blue would though
etc.
darker color would remove bulky look to that front end, lighter colors look bigger to the eye more than darker ones do

if you paint it a darker color then use a darker primer to cover that brighter paint

when i go to paint my purple t/a light blue or light silver gray- i will have to use a very light colored primer to help better/quicker cover the purple so i wont have to use as many coats/as much paint, and i plan on clear coating it a few times to make the paint have depth and look even nicer, color sand it too,

just my opinions/thoughts/ideas/experience

good luck with what you decide upon

Can't remember their screen names, but you'll see someone post soon enough.

Car: too many ...
I'm strongly considering purple for the next color of my 91Z28. With the exception of Burple (Blue/Purple) I never really was a fan of purple until I saw the finished paintjob on a friends car. It completely changed my perspective on purple. I wont let out the name of the color but it was a dark purple with alot of silver pearl and came OEM on an exotic car (thats all the secrets I'm gonna tell hehe). It was insane. So its either gonna be that purple or some shade or orange ...

Purple doesn't belong on a car, even old Mopars.

The only excuse I could possibly think of is if the owner is a girl, but even then . . . .

My old '89 was candy blue but it looked purple-ish depending on lighting.

it is a 3 stage paint job, it is very durty in that pic the color changes in the light big time the base is a standed PPG gloss black. The color come into affect with the purl which is (PPG purple purl 89) the more coates the more visable that is about 3 coats ( i mixed into the clear MID coat) you can get different vearations by the amount of purl you put into the clear. The last coat 3 is strate clear,i put three coats on. It is kinda trickey that is why the cheapest purl paint job you are going to get is going to be around $3000 and that if you are luckey. I am going to paint it over this spring black with purple gost flames. any other ? just ask i cheak back on old post all the time.
