Cloth or Leather?
I'm interested in seeing how many of you prefer your seats to be cloth, and how many of you prefer leather? If you'd care to explain your answer as well, great!

leather is either too hot or too cold.....but I prefer it over cloth.....my next seats will be suede though as they beat both by a long shot

Camaroguy, given the too hot/too cold issue, why do you still prefer leather to cloth? Purely for aesthetics? Makes the car feel more "classy"? I'm curious...
leather definately looks better, but cloth is actually far more comfortable in the real world.Try sitting on a black leather seat on a hot summer day with the sun blazing in through open t-tops,or better yet try to convince the girlfriend to do so.Like I said cloth is much better in the real world.

Nothing beats sitting in a freshly armoralled seat and sliding all over the place in corners.
I voted for cloth because it holds you in place better and doesn’t do the hot/cold thing like leather. It is also easier to take care of than leather.

Ever sit on a leather seat on a 100 degree + day?
cloth is so much better, A little harder to keep clean (stains and such) but so much more.. cooler in the summer (gets to be about 103-107 degree's normally during the summer in my area)

Those new mesh seats are great, clean looking like leather but stays cool and durable like cloth. That's what I'll be getting next. Black leather + t-tops is basically just burnt skin everywhere- I hate it.

For the most part I prefer cloth. I've got leather 4th gen Trans Am seats in my Camaro, and I slide all over the place when I'm driving agressively. For leather seats to work well in that sort of application, you need higher quality seats that are designed to hold you firmly into place. I have less complaints about the leather seats in my C4 for that exact reason, although those are too far to the other extreme in that my fat *** is rather cramped in them.
I hope that in the future I'll be able to add alcentara inserts to my leather 4th gen seats, giving me the added adhesion necessary during driving, plus the great looks of the leather/suede combo.

Leather... just because it looks nicer.
Nobody spills anything in my car because there's nothing allowed in the car that can spill. My car is a non-smoking, eating, and drinking vehicle.

Cloth... mostly due to it's acoustical absorbtion, where leather presents a much harder / reflective surface for the speakers in the car...

Daily Driver: Cloth
Show Car: Leather
My only real reason is the fact that I can keep cloths seats newer looking over along time in a daily driver then leather. Brand new leather looks good for about 15-20,000 miles then you get those wear areas and it makes them looks really bad. Leather for a show car hands down though.

The poll isn't asking what you have in your car... it is asking what is better. Some people seem to equate those two as being the same.
How many rides have you seen them do on Overhaulin' with cloth interior?

Each has pro and cons IMO. Leather overall looks nicer to me. However, I swear everytime I get in my car on a hot day and have to sit down in the leather seats I put in.

Then Chip Foose should come choose leather as being better, but it still dosen't make it the best.
At the end of the day it just some down to what each person wants. I own both and def would choose my cloth in my camaro over the leather in my mustang.

this really sux, i went against my vote, and voted leather...however, i agree to the downfalls of it. When i first got my car, it had cloth, i found a set of rear leather 4th gen seats, and installed them, installed 3rd gen camaro front seats (mis-matching i know) that were dark gray vinyl, i enjoyed them, my girlfriend hated them, saying, they're too cold, or they're too hot. Currently, the 4th gen leather seats are out and in storage awaiting a set of 4th gen leather fronts (anyone got an extra ebony set of front T/A seats lying around?) and i've currently installed 97 firebird gray cloth seats and love them...girlfriend doesn't complain anymore either, least not about the seats. lol.

I've owned a car that wsa black with burgendy leather and it was horrible in the summer, though not bad in the winter. Now I have a white car with red cloth seats and they are pretty much fine year round. Also I feel like the cloth helps hold me to the seat. so.

Of my three cars, only the Camaro has cloth seats. One of the leather upholstered cars is a convertible and even here in SoCal I don't have a problem with them being hot, summer included. Of course, it's tan leather in the ragtop, but still. The other car has two tone light/dark grey leather with suede trim - no heat issues either.
My preference from an appearance standpoint is leather, but for performance driving you can't beat Alcantara (that ritzy fake suede stuff)

MrMikes custom leather on the factory seats, with some new foam work added in. Nice kit, a little pricy but different from the same ole' 4th gen set. And they match front/back

a good point....leather varies by make/model....some cars boast nicer leather than others....and the leather on 4th gen seats seems rather 'cheap' compared to some of the higher end cars Ive sat in
Everyone seems to have a problem with the hot in the summer, cold in the winter issue....Would it be possible to set up the new heated/cooled seats in our cars? I think this would be terrific, becuase I love the heated seats feature.

Leather for sure!
Since I only drive my Camaro 6 months of the year, I never worry about it being too cold. It can get too hot if the seats are left in direct sunlight, which I try to avoid as much as possible. Not only for my skin's sake but for the life and durability of the material itself.
