82 83 84 consoles

ok i have my 82 t/a console next to the console out of the 82 Z28 and i was just wanting to know why GM made them just enough different to screw up interchangeability between them

the location where the parking brake deal sits differes between the two cars, when i measure- from where the front of the shift plate sits and back to where the outside wall of the console bottom rises up higher- the Z28 one has a longer distance here than the T/A one

the upper shells are so close to identical all except for this distance measurement, and also the very top front of the shell just above the heater controls cutout

but the lower shell, wow they differ from each other ALOT

what is the deal ?
why did they need to differ so much ?

there is no way that a good useable 82 83 84 console an be found these days, the one i have im gonna have to repair epoxy,
just am not gonnna find an unbroken replacement one
i see parts like these in good shape skyrocketing in costs in the future as they become even more uncommon

just a rant

thanks

Its simple. One is a Firebird console and the other is a Camaro console.

You must have pretty crappy sallvage yards. I could do out today and get maybe three or four 82-84 Firebird consoles.

Both Chevrolet and Pontiac each had their own separate design studios.

pretty wild

oh and we dont have even one salvage yard here, you have to travel to the city almost an hour to get to one

there are jut towing and recovery yards here, they dont salvage, they only take unclaimed stuff to shredder in peoria

i am one of the very few- if anyone else- here that actually attempts ot remove and find new homws for good parts off various vehicles

just not a big thing here, vehicles and parts and stuff

the big thing here is the shredder and getting scrap $ out of it

no one wants to do the work of removing parts or running a yard here

laziness

i would open and run one here if i had a wayto start up, land, trailer, forklift, etc

way out of my reach though

need to win lottery to start a biz in this stupid world

monet to make money, to do anything at all except to breathe

sad really

if anyone has any ideas how to get business loan/grant that you can use to start such a biz, buy land with and vehicle or two for busniess use then please feel free to let me know lol

or if someone in central IL wants to get with someone to go half and half starting one then lets talk

im all ears

having a yard here, and the only one here, would be pretty good business, would be able to undersell a little, and get ppl from the immediate area in here due to gas costs too

i dont know anything else i want to with my life than vehicles, its all ive ever known and is all i ever do, i have billions of pics to prove, since 1994

probably had over 200 vehicles in here by now,

lol

thanks

Dude, I live in springfield, IL. There are 6 salvage yards here. Next door in Taylorville is a salvage yard that has around 20 to 30 80's f-bodies in that yard. Then there are 2 yards in Virden. One in girard. There's one in Litchfield, one in Mt. Olive. All of them in a short distance from each other. Maybe I just get around alot lol.
