Bird body, Camaro Front end

Ok, dont know if I am posting this in the right forum but here goes.

I have often thought about crossing a Firebird with a Camaro. I know whats the point right? Just to be different!

The only real question I have about this feeble attempt is about where the front end would be hooking up. Not the fenders or hood but the nose/honeycomb stuff. Are they the same or different?

If I even attempt this I would have to find both cars as I only have my 86 IROC and I am not about to do anything to this one.

Would any of you actually attempt this lil swap or waste of time?

I've seen a pic on this website of a camaro body with a firebird front end.

You'll have to swap the front bumpers and fenders. The impact absorber stuff (honeycomb stuff?) you may just have to drill holes for it if the holes are not in the same location for the mounting screws.

a lot of people are putting ss hoods on firebirds and ram air hoods on camaros. I dont see why not swapping the front ends also.

What would you call this beast? Firemaro?

I would call it CamBird....lol

I want to put the Camaro Front end on the Firebird body. Its easier than putting in all the lights and stuff. I just like the camaro front end but love the Firebird interior and basically the firewall back.

This would definately be a true Fbody... I have recently started lookin around for a roller bird and am still split on getting a roller Camaro or just the front end. I wont have issues with what goes where since I will just use my IROC for that.

At first I thought I might be outta my mind but now I might give this some serious thought. I have that tingly feeling now...lol

IMHO, birds should remain birds, and Camaros should remain Camaros.......but it's possible. i saw two of these hybrids in the junkyard recently. To bad cause it looks like the owners did some nice work to get everything aligned real nice.

Very True. Not that I have the money but I just get bored and want something different. I have seen a Camaro with a Bird front clip around town, left me stumped for a bit....lol I think I may have found an 84 Trans am for around 100 bucks. Needs work but I am going to have to do the body work anyway, the motor isnt and issue and then I only need the Camaro clip... This weekend I am going to check it out and see what all is needed to get the Trans Am.

Still got that little in the back of my mind....lol

There is a picture of it done, been done before and been asked several times. The pictures I am thinking of is red with white or silver stripes. Looks good IMO.

Personally, the only thing I like about firebirds are the 91/2 Trans Am tail lights. I'm debating making the back of my camaro look like a T/A - Camaro crossbreed.

Weld and cut quarter panels together
T/A Tail Lights
Mold T/A License Plate hole into camaro bumper
Mold top of T/A bumper into Camaros Bumper
Top it off with a 5" Camaro RS Spoiler from Hawk's

I just have to work up the ***** to chop up a straight body

Thats what I am debating. An all original TA will fetch more $$$ later on than the "Thing" I am gonna create....lol But at the same time I think of the time when I sit inside a restaurant and look at the car with pride. Knowing I am not gonna see another one by just walking around. Our thirdgens are getting to be a rare site as it is... Umm...I should say the nice thirdgens....lol

Lates,

Oh...the guy wants to think about selling me the TA....geez....

Sounds like you're gonna get alot of negative comments too. Not to discourage you, just expect the average clown walking by:

"Yeah, the guy probably crashed the car and used his parts 'maro in his front yard to fix it."

I understand what you are saying, but there is always going to be someone out there with a better TA or a better Z, but when you mix them both you won't be able to be upped one by the people with deep pockets. But when you have something different, you will enjoy it more. Bad side is that if a lot of people like it, everyone will be doing it and the thirdgens will be gobbled up at twice the rate cause it takes 2 cars to do it

I'm gonna have to say that will never happen. I think everyone can picture what either combination will look like and it hasn't been popular yet.

okay so let's say you're doing this: you replace your camaro quarter panels with those of a Firebird and you install firebird taillights. Now you want to put a 3 piece camaro spoiler on the firebird quarter panels... they don't line up or fit at all. Also, you get the triangle look on the side like a camaro but there is sheetmetal filling in that area now rather than the taillight. I'm Just saying you should think this idea over some more. I didn't even get into how chopping and bonding urethane bumper covers and having it hold up is just about impossible.

GUYS, GUYS!!!

This is getting interesting! The guy with the TA still wont make up his mind. I already found a whole front end from a camaro. Actually a whole car but its gonna get parted.

So right now I am hesitant about getting the Camaro. If I get the Camaro without the TA and this guy decides he dont want to sell...... I should just find a regular Firebird, then slap in a SBC 400 I have in another project.

Cool thing is that if I do end up with both cars its only going to come out to around 800 bucks. Both of them would be 305s which I probably wont be able to give away...lol

The SAGA continues...
