Bouncing Headlight

My driver's Side headlight bounces while I drive. Even when the lights are off and down, it is still loose and moves around some.

I have looked at it, but I can't see any bolts which might be missing or loose. Are there any under the light assembly which might cause this? This is very annoying while driving at night...

did u make sure the ring that retains the headlight is holding the headlight? best thing to do is the shake test. grab ahold, shake the unit and look for the play

The whole housing bounces, not jus the bulb. I can see it as I'm driving. Even with the light down, I can shake the housing.

I have held the housing and moved it, trying to locate the loose point. It seems like it might be near the back/bottom of the housing, but I can't see any bolts/holes in that area.

The are A LOT of adjusting screws on the popups headlights.

There are two that bolt the headlight bracket to the core support up top, there are the two each that bolt those brackets to the headlight assembly and there are two more below the actual headlight that bolt it to the cor support on the bottom.

Make sure all six are tightened down and the speed nuts they screw into are secure.

What was said above is a start.

Also in higher mileage cars, the side rods actually start to wear.

The long pieces that hold the headlite in the up position.

They have rounded snap circles on the end made of plastic, these go onto metal ball studs.

If they wear and get play they can do the same thing if its a headlite up issue.

Either replace if u can still get parts or a light light coating of epoxy or equivelant to the inside of the ball(just a skim layer or you will have too much) and relube and assemble.

A cracked healdite housing is also another great one to cause issues. I have seen ones cracked from wear and wrecks.

later

Is there any easy way to get to all those screws and bolts?

Pull the plastic headlight bezel off for the lower two (I think a 10 or 15 torx bit?). Just reach down inside with your hand and the bolts are a 10mm (obviously like everything else on the car). Three of the others are real easy to spot on the core support and around the headlight. The last one is a pain to reach from behind the core support. I don't remember if I can even reach that one without pulling the whole assembly.
