Results of Maaco... Hehe...

Alright. So... I got my car painted back in October, a COMPLETE colour change. And so far, it's doing great. I asked people opinions locally and got the "Don't go for Maaco"... But I decided to try it and see what happens. One of my good friends took his 82 Camaro in and 2 months later his ish was cracking and peeling... Here's how mine stands out. Ignore the back windshield, turns out my tint guy isn't as good as his reputation says... THank *** for warrantys!

Ignore the date on the pics... LoL. I still can't figure out how to change the date on the camera... Oh well.

But for 400, it wasn't half bad...

Hey. Look. Can you see the clouds?

Looks great and for a daily driver, you really can't ask for more at that price.

Give it some time to allow the warts under the paint to come through.

it looks good... this year. From everything I've heard, cheap paint jobs can look very nice when new but don't last very long. They can be the way to go if your car is in dire need of a paint job or if you aren't looking to have great paint for many years to come.

By the way, very cool looking fog light installation

well 2 yrs isnt bad.. depending where parked it and if he waxed/ polished it.. If he parked it in the sun for many hours during the summer and never waxed/ polished it.. or very rarely.. Sounds like 2yrs is pretty good, did he drive it in the snow/salt..?

Cadillac, thx but what do ya' mean by warts under the paint...?

llvll4l2c91350, naw, didn't prep anything myself. I got the cheap pt job but also got the clear coat package on top of it. The only thing I did do was strip everything off it. Emblems, so on. The only thing they did that irritated me was that they sprayed my muffler...

Jeremy, thanks... I like my "fog" lights too. Nice and bright and during the night, it's a pretty bad *** light impression.

Mike, are you in Fresno? Yeah, I took it to the one on Blackstone. Wasn't too happy that it took 3 wks to do when I was told a wk at first, but eh... I'm happy that it's nice and shiney.

83, 2 yrs? the car's parked daily/nightly in my garage on under a car cover. I wash/wax it regularly. I want this to last a minute so I take care of my ****.

Anyways, thanks guys for the compliment! Ya all are amazing... Keep 'em coming...

Now, if I could only get my interior finished...
Black on black is down right sexy!

places that advertise "300$ ANY CAR" are where you take the jeep you plan on rolling.... i had a charookie that my parrents bought me when i was back in high school (i wanted to keep my samurai... but it was there dime) that came painted like the partridge family bus.... every hard line on the car was a different color. the antenna was orange . we paid 350 to have it painted to stock color again. looked awsome for about 6 months then i was glad it was just a beater

Maaco painted my car 3years ago and I have had no problems with it. I store it during the winter and keep it clean and waxed. It looks great from 5 feet away, but if you get within 1 foot you can see imperfections.

I used to live in Clovis. I moved last summer. I got my car painted at the same Maaco. Mine turned out great too and it only took them a week

since you had them do the prep work, what you'll want to look for is paint cracking near the edges of things, like around the door handles, around the door locks, and in cracks and crevaces... basically anywhere a D/A sander can't reach. The difference in prep between a good paint job and a Maaco paint job is that the Maaco guys rarely take the time to properly hand sand the areas where the D/A can't get. That will result in paint that doesn't stick in those areas and will begin cracking and flaking off. This gets compounded by the inexpensive paint they use.

I'm glad you're happy with it, and for a daily driver I can understand why you wouldn't want to pay big bucks for a better paint job, but I would urge anybody who's decided to go with Maaco to at least keep the same color so that when the paint does start to chip, it doesn't look like a complete piece of sh*t from 30 feet away.

Amen to that one... If my car were something that I really wanted people to admire & stuff, than yeah, I'd pay for a 2k paint job. However, I just wanted the car to be presentable for about a yr or so until all the mods are done. Than it will get repainted, again, from a quality shop. That's all I gotta say on it...

That's why. Just live with the bad paint for 1 more year! You're going to pay SO much more for that 2nd paint job because they're going to have to strip that maaco crap off the car instead of just doing a normal paint job in the first place. You'll be looking at an extra $500-1000 in labor because of that.

It makes more sense to just live with ugly paint for 1 more year.

Look, I'm shallow enough to where I don't want to drive a car with a ****ty paint job for what would have been 2 yrs. Besides, I didn't pay for the Maaco, folks did that for my XMas gift. So that didn't come outta pocket. And the GOOD paint job will come outta my pocket but hey... I'm willing for it. Besides, by the time I want that to get done, I'll have learned enough so that I can do the prep myself.

When you want something done right, do it yourself.

yup. i have been quoted about 4 grand from 2 different places for an excellent paint job. where they strip the whole thing and start from bare metal, as if it were back in the factory. i know this paint job will last, but how do i know my car will?? i cant control all the dumbass drivers out there. my car doesnt sit in the garage. its out all the time. i am sure a few years down the road i wont be happy with the maaco paint anymore. its understandable. but i'll only be paying a few hundred. no biggie. im alive now and i wanna enjoy my car with fresh new paint. RIGHT NOW not later on when i dont even know if i'll be alive.

From my buddy who used to work at macco and a few other people. Apparently macco does great painting and it makes sense. The painters they have there paint so many cars and can paint very well. Granted you get what you pay for 400 bucks is a quick spray with crappy prep work and any paint imperfections they don't care. Say if you went to macco and paid 1000 bucks and you did the prep work properly yourself, you would have a show quality paint job and last. And my buddy also said they even restored some old cars, but those guys were paying full price and were getting the same quality as any other body shop (about the same price too).

So I think it comes down to this, if you are gunna be a cheap *** and think you can get a show quality paint job and prep work for 400 bucks you aren't. However if you pay a bit more and you are willing to put work in to make sure the prep work is done right, you won't regret it, no matter where you take it.

Remember the only reason most smaller shops won't do the quick 400 buck spray is because they aren't a chain and therefore must go on their individual reputation, and quick sprays ruin that. Macco has a bad name for poor quality work, because they offer it, but that is not all that they do.

Hey girl...

Don't get me wrong. You will totally enjoy that paint job... for a year. And then the fact that they didn't prep the car for crap will become apparent becuase the paint will start peeling off. That is what is happening in my case anyway.

Still, don't worry. You and I drive our cars (proudly) every day. Make sure they gave you at lease 4 ouces of touch up paint because you will need it. The good news is it will be mainly in places you can't see if you are lucky.

Another parting thought: For what I paid and the results I got, I could afford to paint every year. Take that for what it's worth. Me? I'll spend a "K" next time cuz I love my car that much. All that really means is that if someone runs into me or opens their door on my car, they get an **** whuppin'.
