T-top seals

Hey guys, gonna paint the gta this spring and was gathering some up all new weatherstrip. I the hatch, inner and outer window strips, and the one that goes around the doors. Now I have a question about the t top ones. From what I have been reading on the t top seals I should go with the gm ones, correct? What kind of price am I looking at there?

Soff seal t-top seals

Those are the soffseal ones and at 464 for the set, the gm ones cant be that much worse can they? Do the t-top seals go from the door up around the t top and around the front to where the mirror is up there? Do I have all the seals I need for this car weather strip wise?
Thank you for your time!!

I can't imagine you can get ALL of the gm gaskets for $286. That's got to be just for the t-tops.

I've had very good luck with my soffseal t-top seals. I feel that they provide a better seal than the stock gaskets.

yea but when I look on summits site and it says they run around 450, and the GM's are around 300 it seems almost dumb to go aftermarket. Am I lookin the in wrong place or is it the wrong set I'm pricing?

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...h.asp&N=400406

Maybe I'm not doing this right?

You're comparing apples to oranges. The Summit kit for $450 is more than just the t-top seals.

The Soffseal t-top seals are much less expensive than OEM when comparing the same parts.

look up part number SFT-3191.

I don't know, it depends on what you're trying to fix.

The part number I gave you is the gasket for the windows and t-tops that attaches to the body. It doesn't include the gasket that attaches to the t-top to seal the top of the window.

This is the 8 piece TTop seals for the body and the Window seal and rubber/plastic awning on the TTop glass from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/

GM PART # 10164133
CATEGORY: Lift off roof window-WE DO NOT SHIP GLASS
PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $391.26
OUR PRICE: $230.84
DESCRIPTION: Weatherstrip kit for 82-91 f-body w/t-tops
NEW T-TOP WEATHERSTRIPS WITH DRAIN PROVISIONS AT BUTT JOINT #91-10-37 Subject: NEW T-TOP WEATHERSTRIPS WITH DRAIN PROVISIONS AT BUTT JOINTS (NEW SERVICE KIT AVAILABLE) Models Affected: 1 982-91 FIREBIRD MODELS WITH (CC1 OPTION) There is a new service kit available for past models, (1982-1991), with CC1 option (Weatherstrips, "Awnings" and Retainers). 1991 Firebird vehicles built after VIN breakpoint ML245243 will use new T-Top roof opening and panel weatherstrips. These new weatherstrips have a drain system added to the butt joint contact areas on the opening portion of the weatherstrip, and use a new butt joint angle at the contact areas, see Figure 1. The new panel weatherstrip also mounts in a new retainer. The new retainer is slightly longer than previous styles and has slots in the outboard surfaces to better retain the tabs on the outer ends of the weatherstrip. Due to the change in butt joint angles, these new components MUST NOT BE INTERMIXED WITH PREVIOUS MODEL MATERIALS: OPENING WEATHERSTRIPS - 10165494 - 5 (RIGHT AND LEFT) PANEL WEATHERSTRIPS - 10165496 - (COMMON TO RIGHT OR LEFT) WEATHERSTRIP RETAINERS - 10198230 - 1 (RIGHT AND LEFT) This new weatherstrip is retained to the roof with new type locating brackets at the butt joints on the roof opening. Figure 2 will provide some basic dimensions for bracket location. Parts are expected to be available on September 2, 1991. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place. While it is possible to use the new weatherstrips and retainers to replace past model materials, it is NOT necessary to use the latest mounting brackets if repairing earlier models with this latest material. 1. Keep in mind that the opening and panel weatherstrips must be used AS A SET due to changes in butt joint angles. 2. The upper ends of the garnish moldings will need some material removed to clear the new butt joint shapes. In addition to the above information, a new service kit is available from GMSPO, P/N 10164133 and contains the following: Right and left roof opening weatherstrips Right and left panel weatherstrips Right and left panel weatherstrip retainers Right and left sealing strips (awnings) Instruction sheets Labor Information: For individual components, use published allowances. For Kit Install * Use T 1754 Allowance: 4.7 Hours * Vehicles In Warranty Note: Additional material allowance of $15.00 for adhesives, sealers, cleaners, etc. should be entered in net amount column when installing kit. Figure 1 Figure 2 General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Well I hope it isn't too late for me to put my two cents in, but I bought new t-roof rubber ( and all the rest of my stuff) for my 1984 Trans Am from www.steelerubber.com ... they specialize in antique cars, but have everything you need for third gen cars.........the current price for the t- roof rubber is $136 for a pair. The rubber is first class, with all the little attachment points like the factory had. They make door rubber and hatch rubber as well. Hope this helps. Pat

I have heard good things and bad things about soffseal. I found a 14 piece set of weather stripping which includes the under doors, the inner and outer window sweeps, the t-top seals, and the hatch and cowl for like $484

Thanks very much for the replies guys!! I have bought quite a few sets from steele products for my skylark and chevelle and other cars, they seem to be good quality. Where did you find the 14 piece set for $484 82 Iron duke? The rubber I have now is pretty much rotted off so ANYTHING will be an improvement over what I have.

Has anyone else experienced what I've been going through in their t-top f-body? Once you're going highway speeds, air is leaking in bad on the front of the driver's side t-top seal? It is very annoying because you can't hear yourself think, can't listen to the radio. It's just plain loud and irritating. So my questions are:

1. Would new seals fix this noise?

and

2. Is it a pain to replace t-tops weatherstripping?
