fiero shifter?

I bought an automatic shifter **** from a fiero of some year, since mine got torn up from moisture. It seems to be the same kind as come with the third gens, but when i put it on, and put the pin in, the button doesnt do anything. seems that it doesnt go down far enough. any fix for this or should i find one from a third gen?

theres a plastic rod that goes down the length of the shifter.
if you dont have that in there you need it.

since its a diffrent ****, it may need to be longer.
