half the hinge is typically ALL you need (with the addition of a new 'pin')

Replace that half hinge put in a new pin and you are great for another half a life time....

I've put in 3 of them now and they make all the difference in the world.

One problem I've found is that the new one only has 2 holes drilled . Last time I tried to put one on without drilling that third hole, I never could get to line up properly.

Drill the third hole..use your old hinge piece for a template as to where to drill.....

$100 is what you are going to pay for a new one.....don;t think you would want a used one as you would probably experience the same issue you now have....droopy door....

The new hinge piece will come with the bushings alreadt there and will insure a good fit of your NEW pin.

Suck it up and buy the part......

Fl GM dealership

I just completed this on my camaro. I ordered them from a FL dealership. They were less than $60.00 each plus shipping. The contact at the dealership is Jason Cromer. The number is 1-877-726-8295. He will give you a break on shipping too unlike gmpartsdirect.

Also, drilling the third hole in the door hinge is kinda tricky. You can't just line up the passenger side to passenger side and mark the holes. The third hole is not center in the hinge. I know it doesn't make since but you have to use the drivers side as a templete for the passenger side and visa versa. I c-clamped them together and drilled it that way. Wish I would have taken pictures now. Maybe someone else can explain it better.

I am having the same problem on my 85. There is a 92 RS at the JY with perfect hinges and I was wondering if it is easier to replace the whole hinge set or just the pins? I can pull the complete hinges and all for nothing but is it a PITA to replace them? I will do a search but chime in if you know.

Junkyards will be hard to find a good set. it depends on your problem. wiht mine the bushings were gone for a while so the hole was made bigger which is the reason why i need a new hinge.

pon will he know what im talking about when i call or should i give him your name and help some memories come back?

82. if your pin needs to be replaced it would be easier and maybe more cost effective to get the whole hinge replaced.. the door has to come off for both anway

Have you done it before? Can I do it, or should I take it to a shop to have it done?

you CAN do it yourself... doa search on door hinge pin. i was doign that but then i shopped around for local body shops. 15 buck vs 1+hour and a head ache.. i dont think its worth trying yourself but maybe your the type who likes to complete stuff on his car himself? jsut doa search. theres a spring that causes headaches

I'm pretty sure he wont remember. He works in the parts department. I was referred to him by this website. I have part #'s somewhere but if you just tell him you need the lower hinge body side that should do it.

Normally the top hinge is in worse shape than the bottom. I changed them because my rollers were shot. If you intend to do the bottoms you may as well do the tops also. Unless you know someone I doubt any body shop doing it for $15.00. I also installed the greasable top bushings/pins from top down solutions. This was my first try but it took me a good 8 hours to do the top and bottom. Check out this thread for lots more info.

Remember too the hinges are welded to the doors. That's alot of work to replace a complete used hinge.

I was referring to this about changing the door side hinge. They are welded and require alot of work for a used hinge. I didn't buy the door side. I purchased the body side and installed them.

My doors sag a bit and I was talking to my father in law today. He told me I could buy a set of spacers from Autozone to put on the bottom hinge and it would fix my problem. Ever heard of this?

Yeah, and next year you can get another spacer and then another the next year and so on until you have a 2 inch stack of them.

Actually this is not an option because the hinge is welded to the door and that is the side you would have to put the spacer behind. Besides, if you where going to loosen the hinge to put a spacer in, why not just change the pin and bushing?

If the hinges have not worn enough to ruin the hole for the bushings, than changing the pins and bushings is not difficult at all.

I took the repair route to fix both sagging door hinges. First door took a little more than three hours, second one a little more than two. Installed new lower body sides and installed the upper greasable top bushing repair kit sold by tops down solutions. Not counting the value of my time to repair both doors, the hardware alone set me back close to $400+-. You may be able to locate new lower body side hinges for less than I did but the upper repair kits are priced pretty much the same to all of us. It's not a cheap repair but, it works.

I picked these up today from a 92 RS along with the lock actuators for $5. Is this even doable or should I take it somewhere or buy all new hardware? It was a PITA just removing the pins and I don't wanna mess up my car because it has new paint?
