83 Berlinetta interior

I was wondering if that silly stand alone radio can be replaced with a DIN unit? Was 83 the only year that ridiculous stereo was like that?

If so, would the console/lower dash from an 84 retro fit an 83?

Thanks.

Oh, and if anyone has any pictures of custom stereo installs on an 83 (or just interior conversions) please let me know.

Thanks,
Justin

Kept the stock interior of my 83 berly, put in a JVC (cheepo) radio in the car and made a custom adapter plate out of wood (spray painited black) unforunetly i had to splice into my factory wireing harness because all the audio stores i went to feed me bs about not haveing any adapter's for the car cause of the age. Heres a shot of the head unit not the best pic but you can get the idea.

They make a radio pod specifically for the berlinettas that replace the stand-up radio and provide a standard location for the new radio.

Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time finding it. Maybe it's been discontinued.

I'd be really interested in that. I'll try searching too.

Nope, their the orginal seats, the picture that i showed you were about two or three months old from now, i got some car cover's on the front seats now, just to protect the driver seat from any more wear.

Oh, ok. they just looked like the 4th gen. I was curious if & how they fit.

I have a set of 4th gen seats I was considering swapping in because my 3rd gen's are pretty torn. Thing is, I have a power seat on the drivers side though.

Anyone know if the console out of a 83 Z28 or later model 3rd gen will fit easily in the 83 berlinetta?

from all the jyard trips ive taken, i haven seen a difference between the consols of the other models exept when/if the car has a didigtal dash. Your consol should look the same as mine. mind posting a pic of the radio?

Whatever you do DONT throw away the Berlinetta radio

Those things fetch quite a bit off ebay and collectors will be messing themselves in a few years once 3rd gens start appreciating again

I did not have a "stand alone" radio in my berly.. i must not of had a very high optioned Berly.. it only sold for around 14k new
but i am intrested in the radio. (ps.. my radio that i had in the car wouldnt even turn on (all the wires were fine, the radio itself was toast) so i did though it away. no need for a broken HU in my house.

I'm heading out of town tomorrow so you guys will have to wait till sat. night or sunday before I can post a pic of the stand alone HU.

It works fine, but the clock stays on 1:00 ??

And I noticed a typo... I have an 84... i have no idea why I typed 83. I think i was thinking 83 because earlier that day I was talking to someone about the "83 corvette" **

*it's a joke.. there is no 83 corvette.

Anyway, I have a digital dash and a stand alone HU.

I like the dash, just not the HU..

There, cleared things up.
