i have got a huge problem i think

i bought a 90 rs for 600 bones. in good shape. the hood latch was bad so i bought one at thebone yard and installed. everything was working great while testing the latch. after testing i dropped the hood and latched it. it opened great 4 or 5 times. see where this going! i was adjusting the bumpers for hood alignment when the handle went slack. the hood is now properly latched and i am not sure how to get it back open. i can hear the stupid cable going back and forth so i image it came loose because i failed to secure it properly. any ideas, thoughts, abd good jokes would be appreciated. to top it off i left a ratchet at the bone yard! hehehe.

thx,

nevada

Well sounds like you not having a good day.

If the gab is big enought try getting a hack saw blade under the hood to cut the latch bar, or use a sawzall to do it. Perhaps go under the car and see if you see a way.

I would first push back down on the hood, and pull the hood latch again, and see it did different, if it felt tight then more and likely it is not lose, the just needs to be fought with a bit to loosen.

Not being there is hard to tell.

can you push back down on the hood so when you pull the cable it feels like you are pulling it for the first time relatch it essentially?? Have you tried hitting it on the center of the hood about 5-6 inches up? that works for me when my hood is being stubborn. how bout pulling up and down and side to side?

Wait a second, i think i just reread your post lol did you say you adjusted the front bumper and fenders while your hood was popped?? lol can you just confirm this form me? have any pics, this might be interesting to see, didnt you notice a gap by the doors form?? oh boy. lol

hehehe

No (that would be funny though), I was adjusting the little rubber deals under the hood so I could line the hood up with the fenders so everything looked squared. It turns out the neighbor kid is smarter than me. We jacked it up from side. He reached up thru the back of the front fascia and popped the latch with a screw driver. Ten minutes and we were good to go. I felt like a knuckle head lol. Learned something I guess. I was correct that the cable was not hooked up correctly as it had popped loose. Now I got a new prob though. The car won’t start. It has a tank of bad gas that I need to drain off. The starter is sure trying to get it going though .

thx

My old 89 would NOT open via hood release, I always had to crawl under the nose and reach up n fiddle with the latch

You can easily reach the latch from underneath

This is how ya open the hood by hand

Well, if theres no rust you are starting off ahead of me I am aucutally looking for a deal like that, a good body with no rust and something that i can throw an engine and tranny into, glad I was wrong about you adjusting the panels to the popped hood that would have been really funny.
Good luck with your project,
Dennis

It doesnt open by the cable because the hook doesnt release the hood

Sounds like your cable is not broken so the lil release arm is moving, just the hook is not twisting

Here is a pic of the bind up spots on the latches Ive replaced

File em down or buy a new latch

Hope these help

I had this happen to me on my bird. I had a buddy pull back on the hood release while I gently beat on the hood above the latch and it FINALLY released.

I don't know if it will work in your situation or not, but its worth a try.
