Door alignment

Normally I'd do a search, but it's not working.

I just swapped a used door on to my Camaro. How do I align it so it fits flush? The rear part of the door sticks out on top about a 1/4 " but the bottom seems okay. It's almost like the door is twisted somehow.

I saw the door before it was removed from the junker, it fit that car perfectly, so I doubt there is anything wrong with the door itself.

Thanks.

losen but dont take out the hinge bolts (i used a ratchet wrench) get a jack stand to hold the door up .the door will have some play in it ,just move the bottom of the door in tighten it up see if that helps .if not pull the top out or push in. its kinda of a lets adjust and see type thing .

it is a combination of things. You might have to shim the bottom hinge of the door outwards a bit to get the rear door even top to bottom, even if it's outwards too much.then I think you can adjust the door striker assy in a little to get the whole rear of the door to latch inwards to the correct amount.

If I shim the bottom hinge will I have to shim part of the top hinge to prevent putting too much stress on the hinge pins?

Or will the door flex enough that I don't have to worry about it?

thanks

as long as it's only a little it should be alright. How long did the door sit?If it was sitting uninstalled for a long time it might have warped.

With the door in place and all the bolts loose it fits perfectly the misalignment happens after I tighten the bolts. The original door was hit pretty good right at the front, the hinge post may need to be pulled a little. I bought the door a year or so ago, it was in storage untill last weekend.

I got it straightened out. The door was too high, and I had to elongate the hole that the striker goes in to get it to go back farther.

Thanks for the replies
