Hood scoop finished
Completed the transformation of our old TA hood into something pretty cool with a scoop from Unlimited Products. Wasn't that tough to do, attached a pix. Have plenty of shots of the whole process. Let me know if you want to see more or have questions.

Yep, it is functional. Had clearance issues when we put the 350 in. Very close fit to the air cleaner, sucking lots of hot air in. Runs nice and cool now. I'll attach some additional ones tonight.

Hmmmm, let's see, "looks horrible", but hey if you have some tailights I want them? You gotta be kidding me.

LOL, that thing is outrageous but you know what, I'm glad to see people get creative and ingenuitive....friggin drive on man....whatever works and gets it done is fine by me! Darn motor wont fit....you made it fit..bottom line

the execution looks great, doesnt' look like it was just slapped on there like most scoops are..
but from your sig, it doesn't sound like you have the muscle to back it up. When I see (and most others) see a scoop on a car going down the road, you expect it to be pushing some mad HP, 600+...the look your going for is a bit exaggerated, but like stated above, not my car...so enjoy it

Yeah I agree with you klumb, should be pushing big HP. Here's the rest of the story. This has been a father/son project for the past 3 years. Best 3 years of my life. My son is 19 and I am 47, so what you get a mix of old skool and new school flash. If he wants to bolt it on or build it up, I go along, cuz it means more hours in the garage with my son. I still stay up at night when he takes it out cruising....go to sleep when I hear it rumble in the garage. More hp means more sleepless nights....yeah I will get over it, eventually. So, bottom line, the project has been just for fun, no design statement, no hope of ever getting our money back, absolutely no regrets. Hopefully, no end in sight!
thats awesome dmason, i'm 19 myself, and my dad used to be big in pro drag racing back in the day, he's helped me so much with my car, has pretty much matched the amount of money i've put into it. We fight once in a while about alot of things, but when its time to work on the car its a good bonding experience and I wouldnt have it any other way. I'm glad there are dad's out there like you...keep up the good work, its all worth it to see a smile on your kids face, thats how my dad looks at it, and I'm going to be in the position some day too...

Here are some more shots. OK I know we should have taken the front plate off.....my apologies to the purists! I will post the underside shots and some of the process shots as we built it, later today. Thanks for the feedback.

Hm, I kind of like it. But can I make some constructive suggestions?
1. You can see through it. This cant be goof for airflow. Is there a way to seal the back?
2. The sidepipes look really strange like that. They should be bigger and shiny IMO. Maybe you can get a larger pipe to sheath the smaller one?
3. The rake of the car looks wrong. If it's possible, you might want to lower the front a bit and raise the back to really get that stance going that you expect from a car with sidepipes and a semi-pro-stock-looking hoodscoop.
Just some suggestions.

You betcha I can take some suggestions. Thanks.
1. The scoop is a combination cowl and nozzle. The back is open (cowl) so, yes you are correct the air is not forced into the carb. Hopefully, we will fill that big ol' hole with something that wants all that air.
2. No sidepipes. We have not finished intalling the ground effects. Plan to have them cover the exhaust, may have them redone and exit rear. Have very short turbos on it now, also very loud. Obviously, we will need to turn the tips down or shorten them, if we don't exit rear.
3. The pix does distort the rake. It is actually lower in front than it looks. When we put the 355 in we changed the springs to the "v8" version. Raised the front...new springs in rear helped some. We are thinking about rotating the fronts some to see if they go lower. I'll get a better shot up of the side view and see what you think.
Appreciate the suggestions.

I like it, but yeah, you should do something about the fact that you see right through it.. Kinda looks funny... I think you did a fantastic job...

I'm also 19 and I think it's cool what you're doing. Good on ya.
Do you have any pictures of the production? How you molded it on, etc?
Hey I'm pushing thru 40 myself and love your car. You have the old school Cragers and raised letter tires. Also, the back louvers look great, and where can I get a set of sidepipes, they look great. I had to sell my Goldwing last year because of back problems. I needed something to play with after running an A/C co. all day. I piddle around, but those sidepipes are outrageous. I'm thinking about something similar and putting the Bandit bird on. Busy time now will have to wait till fall. I run estimates

its cool what your doing with your kid, im 18 and my dad has helped me build my cars and taught me on his for as long as i can remember. hes a very old school type guy. but the time ive spent with him building cars is irreplacable by anything.
personnaly i dont like the scoop, but thats just my opinion, if you guys like it, thats what matters most. but i think it kinda looks like when the 80's attacks!
the sidepipes are pretty cool, and i dig the raised letter tires! i have raised letter's on my Z with cragar "wanna-be's"

looks like it'll tear down the strip just fine though, keep up the hard work.

I love it!!! Looks great man. I'm 24 but with roots that goes back into the "old school" ways of hot rodding. Great looking father/son project. You know the feeling you have when wrenching with your son.. Well man he may not say it but he likes it even more than you do and he'll always remember it when life gets hard and rough he will think back to the times in the shop working on the firebird with his old man.
I say just add more HP to the beast and let her roll. I do understand why you don't want to do that right now though.
That scoop does say "look at me, I'm big, and bad, and fast" but meaning no dis-respect to anyone I like it better than the super duty, or SS hoods sold on the market.

Re: Hood scoop finished
Car is in pieces currently, will get it back together now that it is above 10 degrees in the garage!
We are planning to race it primarily, here is what is on deck:
New 383 stroker, forged pistons, crank, .626 lift Bullet roller cam, roller rockers, new AFR 210 eliminator heads.
4000 stall torque converter
racing seat
lowered the front about 2 inches and installed manual steering and Lakewood 90/10 racing struts
slicks
We'll see how long the rearend holds up!
I'll post some new pix when she comes to life.
Thanks for the interest.

Not very long if your hooking. Sounds like your gonna have a great engine package though.
I have already broke two GM 7.625" 10 bolts just running 11.40's @118, cutting 1.60's short times foot braking the car with a 2800 stall that flashs 3200
