I just want to know which seals worked best from those of you who have actually done the job according to their instructions/tips/etc. Im between Soffseal from Classic Industries or Ive heard of Metro as well. I know GM is the best, but its harder to find each day and costs almost double what these two do. If either of these fit just as well, Id like to go with them. I have read the other posts regarding this topic, but wanted a more specific idea of what worked best for who by those who have done this repair via the poll.

 

I used GM replacments from yearone and they work great.

 

used one set of sofseal on my son's 83 Z28 and they fit perfect. Used a set of GM seals on my 81 Z28 and the fit was and still is terrible. Used a tube of black formagasket in the inside corners to fill in the huge gaps between the seals and the frame.

 

Same experience I had with my '89! The big-$ GM stuff fit horribly and leaked, replaced it all after 1 year of desperate attempts to seal the darn car. I purchased a Metro set trough Advance Auto (shop around, they can be gotten cheaper these days) and they fit tight and right!

 

Boy, this is going to make picking a seal supplier tough. So far, we have votes for and against each of the companies!

 

I just replaced all my weather stripping in my 86 Z w/ T-Tops. I used OER which is endorsed by GM. They had good instructions, and they fit just like OEM. They had the hard plastic tabs in the corners, and where the screws go just like GM. It cost me $365.00 to do the T-Tops, doors, hatch, and hood cowl seal. I have water tested, and wind noise tested, and they are leak free. I have used no other product before as this was the first time I have done this. A friend of mine who works in the restoration business recommended OER to me.

I bought them off of Ebay from S&S Classic Auto Parts. They have alot of 3rd gen reproduction parts. Great company to do business with.

Fit great, went right on. No leaks. 23X for seals, weather strip adheasive (though I had to buy another tube locally).

 

Hi Steve,

I just installed OER T-Top seals and and having a little trouble with leaks where the ttop rubber meets the car rubber (i.e. front and back of window glass on both sides). It only leaks if water is sprayed on the windows (i.e. when washing). Do you know any tricks or have a pic that could help me.

Got mine from local GM dealership. The installation went smooth but 1 year later, they are not holding as well as I expected. I am starting to get just a little water seepage around the corners . Should have got mine from the vendor for sof seal at the Ta Nationals in Vandalia, Ohio and saved some money

Went with the Sofseal from Classic Industries...worked great, fit well. For the price it was fine. I wouldn't have been happy paying any more than I did for GM if the fit was as good as it was with the Sofseal.

 

Does it leak at all?

 

I sold the car shortly after...I had an issue with the t-bar and sealing that up properly which had nothing to do with the seal itself. The seal worked great and di not leak...it seeped by the t-bar underneath and I had to fix/seal that so it would not leak. In short, no it did not leak.

 

did you fix your ttop leak yourself?

 

The metro seals are well made A friend of mine recomended them to me I still have not installed mine.

 

Yea, but that was about 2 years ago plus now. I will be doing it again soon though as I recently took on a car with extensive rust on the t-tops and will be cutting and welding in addition to sealing them up. I will try and keep updates on here of anything "special" I may run into.
