Failed Lower Hinge

I was doing the TDS upper hinges and found that the lower hinge was also bad. The roller has been wearing out the pin. If your roller is popping and not rolling anymore, replace the pin and roller (saves money) before its to late. NOTE: Lower hinges from GM only come with 2 mounting holes, some cars require a third hole drilled(mine).

A thread like this was posted the other day, but the lower rollers weren't shot as much as yours and mine: Lower Door Hinge Roller Rebuild.

To fix mine I used the new pin and roller from GM. A quick chop with the sawzall cut off the offending pin flush with the pin housing, and a 9/32" drill bit was used to drill out the rest of the busted pin. Bingo, no need to buy new lower hinges.

Cool,
I actually bought the hinge a year ago. Just recently found out about the pin and roller. I'll just use them on the drivers side.
Thanks

A new hinge is always trouble, the lower hinges you have were installed in the factory and new ones are HARD to get them them to fit right. As far as the deterent rollers I thought they were pressed into the hinge at the factory, I know that LON can replace them but I don't think it can be done at home?

Well, I did it... so

However, the larger pin that holds the detent roller and it's pin may not be able to be easily installed without a large press, as the end needs to be smashed to expand the metal and keep it in place.

I tried to pull the pin out, but since half the pin was worn. It just broke off and I said forget it. The third hole was easy to drill, I just used the stock hinges as a tamplate. I took the entire door off for the hinge & pin swap.
