A similar story happen, when I finished putting the new exhaust on the IROC we lowered the car off the jack and it started rolling out of my garage and heading for my buddy's 2000 SS, so I dove in through the window and slammed on the brakes just in time, before I wrecked both of our cars. It was close, too close.

 

Ok, this is moreso scary than did any damage, but my friend and I were pulling the motor and trans out of my 86 sport coupe, and while jacking up the cherry picker, we heard a strange noise, didn't think much of it, so we kept going. After the motor was about 6 inches up from the motor mounts, the welds on the cherry picker snapped, and shot forward, coming about half an inch short of the windshield. We were both just really lucky that we didnt have our hands or anything in the way.

Another thing i did was to my 87 IROC, I had it down at the local dragstrip for "Midnight Madness" and there was a burnout contest. It was pretty impressive, but the good ole 700r4 didnt really like it. the next day it started grinding between 1st and 2nd, so i took the trans down, and had several broken hard parts, including the rear planetary, all the input clutches were dead, and most of the rest had seen better days. Made for some pretty sweet pictures though.

 

I had just gotten my first Thrid-Gen (And first car.) three weeks, and backed the rear driver-side taillight into a pillar at a gas station. Fumed really badly, it was like I hurt myself or something when the car got hurt.

 

Back in '76 every now and again we would end up gathering at a Hardee's parking lot. There was this guy named Rudy that had a nice looking Dodge Challenger 383 with a Thermo-quad. It was backed into the parking space all clean, shiny and freshly waxed. He decided to leave and his car wouldn't start. Well, he looked under the hood, found nothing wrong, fussed and cussed until he was mad enough and kicked the drivers door one good time. By now he has about 15-20 onlookers and is quite embarassed because his car won' crank. Now I for one, would never do something as stupid as kicking my car, although I've been tempted. He finally gave in walked over to the pay phone and called a tow truck. Rudy was sitting in the car all po'd when the wrecker driver arrived. The wrecker driver stood there a minute and peered into the car, reached in from the passenger side window and bumped the shifter into neutral and said "try it now". The car suddenly roared to life.
Turned out he had evidently left it in reverse once backing into the space, most likely talking to someone and failed to put it in park.

It cost him $.15 for the phone call, $20 to get the wrecker driver out there, who knows how much to get the caved in door repaired. But the look on his face when the wrecker driver reached in and knocked the shifter into neutral with all of his buddies realizing his stupidity was priceless!

 

My uncle was putting a drive in his 70 chevelle and had it up on ramps. Well, he didn't think to engage the emergency brake since the rear wheel's were on the ground and when he pulled out the drive shaft the car rolled back and snapped his arm, pinning him underneath.
