Rocker panel help

Ok, I was going to start installing my subframe connectors when I noticed the driver side (and probaby the pass too) was really bad in the floor pan and the front 1/2 of the rocker panel. I found a company no to far from me that makes the inner and outer rocker panels (big $$), but would I be able to get away with using some 1/8" or thicker steel strips and putting some sheet metal in the floor for the floor pan? Or could I go to the junkyard and cut out a floor panel and rocker panel??

The car is going to end up caged and with a 4 link, so I am not entirely worried about looking factory, but I do want to keep it decent looking, and not hacked up. PLus I am wondering how hard this is to do or if anyone has done this before.

Thanks for the info all!!
