hatch light problem

hatch light problem
ok here is my prob. i have a 1992 z28 were the brake light is in the hatch and the bulb blew so how do you change it?

There are 2 torx screws (one on each side) that have to be removed to slide the cover off. The bulbs are those bayonette type that just pull straight out.

I think they were around $3.50 for a pack of 2, (they always want you to buy more than you need). By the way, I found that mine wasn't working because the bulb was getting so hot that it melted the plastic socket. I couldn't put a new bulb in because the socket was deformed. I suspect that this happened because the bulb wasn't inserted far enough which caused a poor connection and thus high resistance and heat.
Just make sure it is fully seated and as a further precaution put some dielectric grease in the socket which helps it go in easy and suppresses any sparks by insulating the conductive surfaces from the air.
What I ended up doing was dremmelling out the melted plastic big enough to insert a metal socket and glued it in with J-B Weld. I then put in an LED bulb to keep the heat down. It's not quite as bright as before, but it is legal.
