Does this firebird cowl hood exist??? Could swear Ive seen it...

Hey everyone. I was checking out hoods for my 87 TA. I was sold on the RAII hoods...but fitment issues with them, plus the nostril look didnt really completely make up my mind. Then I was looking at regular cowl hoods. But I think they are better suited to the camaros. Awhile back, I could have swore that I saw a hood that followed the lines of the TA hood. It was basically a wide rounded cowl. ALmost like a huge power buldge. I guess the closest thing Ic an think of is the RA I hoods...but without the ram air part. I have a pic with lines drawn on the hood lines Im talking about.

Anyone ever see something like this or something similar???

Let me know!

Your probably thinking of the JONGBLOED STYLE COWL HOOD. They are rounds on the edges and sides rather than the straight up and down of the traditional cowl hood.

Kind of like this one here

Hood Pictures

I am not sure though if they make one for the TA

Thats pretty close to what I remember seeing!!! I could have sworn that I saw it on a TA... Maybe someone used that hood and a TA hood to make one TA hood. Thanks for the pics!! Anyone else have any more info on a hood like this for a bird??

Aye, Nightcruzer, that hood is bad.. I like it! The hood in the first picture actually looks like it dips down right behind the front tires though doesn't it?

Umm....THATS REALLY CLOSE!!! If not exactly what I was thinking. My memory was telling me that it followed the hood lines exactly...but my memory sucks sometimes

Definetly post up where that picture is from. Are they still in production? Pic looks old... Any more info would be greatly appreciated by not only me Im sure! Thanks!

That pic is from an old Motion Performance catalog. I may have also seen it at Show Car Body Parts.
Both companies contact info can be found here.

It has to be this one . These were on Pro-Ams and you can only get a bolt on / mold on scoop from showcarbodyparts.com . I talked to the owner on the phone and they don't make the complete hood anymore .

91RedRagtop hit the nail on the head. Thats the one. I also called that company and talked to them. They said they no longer produce the hood...but have the scoop. Not into that sort of thing. I want a complete hood. I thought I got on and mentioned that I called and talked to them...been so busy at work I dont remember my left from my right some days.

Anyway...I really like that hood. If I ever need the clearance for the top of my LS1 ... thats what I would want to go with. Regular 2" cowl is a second place choice, and the WS6 style ram Air II hood is third.

Someone ought to make a nicer scoop and/or a fiberglass hood. Wouldnt me that much more difficult than making a regular cowl. But I think it fits the birds better than the square cowls that look so hot on the camaros.

The ram air II fits good if you take the time and have LOTS of patience.

Darn you wackytower!!! Everytime I talk myself out of that hood...I see one that makes me drool all over myself. BEAUTIFUL car man. That hood looks like it fits perfectly. I dont have patience at all. haha. And I think it would look good on my all black TA...but Im just torn as to if I like the way it goes with the thirdgen lines. Like I said...yours looks hot. Im just torn. I liked that Pro-am style hood tho.. But I wont settle for a external type deal...

ghettocruiser, are there any fiberglass shops around you? When I was looking for my SS hood I went to a local fiberglass shop who made one for me at the same price you find them on the internet. I would check that out first before getting a bolt on/mold on scoop.

Well why don't you call Motion Performance and see if they still make the whole hood . If they do let me know too .

I believe I did call motion. They are a dead end as well. Seems like you can only get the bolt on deal.

I wish I knew if there was a good fiberglass shop around. Doesnt that get expensive??? They'd have to make a mold for my stock hood. Or a stock hood of some sort. Then they'd have to modify the mold for the scoop. Make it bolt on...etc etc. I will look into it though. Its definetly a good suggestion. Then I could have them do it the way I wanted...and have something totally unique. Ill let ya guys know if I find something out.

That guy on ebay has a Ram Air I hood. i like them as well. I think I like the way they look alittle better than the Ram Air II hood...however, I think it looks best on the 91-92 style cars.

The fiberglass shop I went to already had the mold for my hood. There is a chance that they would know someone who already has the mold so they wouldn't have to do much work. I wouldn't think they would make the mold and then create the hood that way given it would be much more expensive to them.

As far as that eBay auction, the guy is lying pretty blatenly just by looking at his track times he states and also the fact he says he never ran nitrous through it. But that's besides the point.

Whatever you do, if that's the hood you want don't stop searching for it. It exists somewhere, just gotta find it.
