Is it supposed to have this like inch gap from the nose to the hood? the body shop guy i went to who painted my car said its supposed to be like this...it annoys the crap out of me. Its a fiberglass hood. I am planning on changing the hood shocks to the 82 Z28's ones since theyre different apparently with the fiberglass hood and all. Just wondering what I could do to fix the gap.

 

Does the hood line up all the way down the fender and the nose piece?(it's hard to tell in that picture)
Cause you could probably raise the nose up a bit. As well set the hood latch down and turn the bumpers down a bit. That should take care of most of the gap or a least hide it better.

 

a few things:

lower the hood bumpers down all teh way (the 2 rubber bump looking things, that can thread up or down on the body of the car, not on the hood)

lower the latch down

or more easily. if you are using a hood spring ...cut it down an inch or two, and put a rubber grommet over it, for where it contacts the fiberglass hood

-prior to cutting down my hood spring, my hood would have a slight 1/4" gap between it and the nose piece, after i cut down the spring a bit, and bent it , put a rubber grommet on top, the gap is nicely reduced to about 1/8" or less

 

Yea the hood lines up all the way down the side of the car on both sides.

The spring deal sounds pretty good i will try it. The rubber hood bumpers are all the way down. I don't get what you mean by moving the latch for the hood.

Well at least now I know your not supposed to have a gap.

 

sounds like he is just too lazy to do the adjustments to make everything line up properly.

I have a similar issue and I'll be getting a Ram Air hood next spring, and it will have to be dealt with in the same way...everything on my car lines up great but I have the gap between the nosepiece and the hood.

 

i have a 4.75 glassteck cowl hood and it has the same issue i had to sand the front lip to get the gap the way i liked it and as far as the hood struts go good luck i changed mine like 6 times so i went to the junk yard and got a prop rod from a ranger and made that work

 

ok i know its been a while but havent had time to deal with this issue. Its still there!! even before i installed the latch assembly with the spring, the gap is/was still there. If i trim the hood, where do i trim? It looks to me like the lower part of the hood is hitting the headlight assembly...should i start the trim there?

 

i had the prob , i just lowered my bumber's under the hood and it droped it fine , hoots a little more of a pain to open tho casue the pull cord seems worn

 

sickcuban - there is NO way we will be able to tell u what is not correct/what you need to adjust without looking at some pictures of the hood, latch, gaps, etc
