F-body general Interchangeability

Hey, I'm wondering what parts between camaros and firebirds from 82-92 are swappable between eachother. I'm mainly concerned about the following:

Door (L&R)
Fender (L&R)
Quarter panel (L&R)
Hatch
T-tops

But, post all of the parts that you know are (besides the obvious ones like the drivetrain parts and wheels/tires). I'm sure people could use this for future reference

Axle/Gears: posi, and posi w/discs :D.
honestly everything is interchangable.
if you want to put a trans am front end on your camaro, you can bolt it up.
the doors are all the same, the 1/4s might be, but the rear end is different due to different tailights.
t-tops, yes, i can vouch for that.
hatch is the same also.

how much of the 1/4 are you talking about? If you look at the bottom of the pillars, the firebirds have much more of a crease than the Camaros do. So that part is different. Not sure if it would work from that area on though.

T-tops are interchangable? Ive seen different styles at the junkyards. When i had to replace my Berlinetta's a long time ago i got the tops from a z28 brackets and everything and they were a different size.

The doors and hatch are the only things that interchange directly, body lines are different on the fenders and quarters ..

the t-tops are the same on a camaro and firebird of the same year... they did have several different styles over the years though! I believe the hook style was an '82 only item, then they had the small diameter pins and at some point late in the run they went to large diameter pins. The rear quarter panels are completely different with the firebird ones being about an inch wider and having a larger ledge on the b-pillar as already described. The hatches are a direct swap. The doors are the same from camaro to firebird, but had internal changes over the years. As for hood/bumpers/fenders, you need to swap all of them together from camaro to firebird or vice versa for it to work (as already described). Interior plastics are identical, seats directly swap... dash assemblies can be interchanged, but depending on year, may require some work on the lower mounting points.

The size difference would be if the tops came on the car or if C&C tops were added post production. C&C (Cars & Concepts, an aftermarket company at the time) t-tops were smaller (front to back) than OEM.

No, the firebird is wider @ the rear.

So basicaly if I read this thread right theres no differance from82-92 in the hatch / deck / and or glass. They are direct bolt ons.Was wonderin because was at the yard taday and noticed there looked to be a bit of a differance in the firebird and the camaro. The bird seemed to have more at the rear panel where it meets the deck on the hatch than the camaro. This is of interest to me because my Camaro doesn't have rear defogger and this is a handy function in the cold season.I know I'll have to do some rewireing but no worries there have successfully rebuild a number of harness's in my time. And my local pull-a-part sells hatch's for under 50.00 with glass so guess where I'm goin soonest.

The only diff in the hatch would be where the spoiler (if equipped) or the 3rd brake light (86 newer) is positioned the deck and glass are the same for the firebird or camaro 82-92... any year will bolt on to another with no mods the quarter panel is the same length but the tail lamps are positioned differently, the camaro is cut out where the birds are recesed into the quarter...

toooopid question.

Had a bor at the yard try ta tell me that the bottom spoilers from yr to yr are not inter changeable.Thart is the front bottom ground efx or spoilers or air dams.My 90 has no openings in that part right under the hood on the nose piece nor in the very bottom attached (removeable)grnd efx.Was lookin at a set on a I-roc that had openings to direct air flow and considering the whole unit or just the boyyom air dam and bolting it on mine after of corse i remove the present bottom piece.

The lowers GFX on the nose will interchange from 85-92 with some exceptions the 85-87 standard coupes without the GFX have no mounting provisions for them, otherwise the noses from 85-92 will accept any of the GFX from any year from 85-92 the main difference in the front spoilers are a slight difference in the shape from 85-90 to the 91-92 having the ducts on the sides of the spoiler and the clips that attach them to the fenders ..
