Info on 1982 T/A ram air emblem

I just bought a 1982 Trans Am. It has the LU5 5.0 Cross-Fire Fuel Injected V8 with the WS6 handling package.

I was doing some research on the car and found a website that had info on the 82 TA (The 1982 Firebird Book, 11/81). It notes that the cross-ram fuel-injected engine had a logo on the hood shroud (cross ram injection). I bought the car from the 2nd owner and he said it wasn't on there when he bought it in 1984. Does anybody know if this logo was suppose to be on the car I have? I have done searchs but can't come up with anything.

Thanks,
Becky

from what I've read the cross fire injection system was preaty crappy, I wouldent worry about it unless your going for a 100% factory restoration.

In essence a TBI system with TPI intake and varyed injector sizes on alternate sides of the head it delivers fuel to. Not a bad system in my opinion, very desireable and it had to be decent otherwise it wouldnt have made it on the Corvette let alone 3rd gen F-Body

I think it all depens on what kind of exterior options where selected if there was any sort of CFI sticker on it or not.

Not quite sure though.

First welcome to the site. You'll find a lot of info and good people here.
On the Z28 the Crossfire stickers are on the rocker GFX just below the Z28 emblems and there's a Crossfire emblem on the back bumper that's identical to the one on the air cleaner(I haven't been lucky enough to find an extra one so I bid/won one off Ebay that's used on the '82 Vette's fender).I've never seen a CFI or Ram Air sticker/emblem on the CFI T/A's(in pictures or in person). If the person you bought it from said it wasn't there in '84 then it probably wasn't.Unless someone on here has a '82-'83 T/A with CFI can shed some light on it or you run across it in doing research. You might try dealer brochures for '82-'83 for pictures. Also Chevy didn't use decals to denote the air induction on the '82-'83 Z28s.
And the CFI induction is not as bad as it's made out to be.You can make decent power but it does take more work than a TPI system. But I'm biased because the one on my '83 was in good working order when I got her.Get a factory service manual for your T/A as the Haynes/Chiltons don't offer much info on them.

Edit:This is one of those never say never items. They did use 5.0 HO decals on the hood bulge for the L69(and i think 5.0 FI & 5.7 FI on the later cars - particular to the Formula). And there are Crossfire decals(not factory but nice looking) on Ebay you could use if you wanted to.

Thanks for the info! The car is all original except the spoiler, the previous owner liked one off a later model camaro Z28. However he gave me the original. I think for all intense purposes I would like to keep the car as original as possible. One thing I might like to change is the exhaust. Still has the original stock exhaust with resanators. Sounds good but I like something with a little more rumble. The previous owner has a brand new flowmaster he bought for it but never installed. He offered to give it to me for free if I wanted it. Does anyone else have flowmaster on their third gen? Does it sound pretty good?

One more question I have been trying to find out. My car has the posi-rear end. Did that come with the WS6 or WS7 package? Anyone know?

I think you may be referring to my site. I found the logo reference you’re talking about and removed it (looks like I also need to do some proof reading). There was no logo on the hood. There are “Fuel Injected” inserts on the door handle but that’s it. The book was printed in November 1981, so at some point during design there may have been a logo on the hood that never made it into production.

All LU5 (crossfire) cars came with WS6 or WS7 which came with the posi-rear end. So, yes, it is included.

My stock LU5 is pretty loud and grumbly, I wouldn’t want is any loader, but that’s me. I also have an 83 L69 and the 82 LU5 is much loader and sound a lot better, although I’m not sure the 83 has the stock exhaust.

It may have been your sight I looked at. It had alot of great information. I did alot of research before buying the car. I like to know alot about a car before buying it.

The car is in such excellent shape I couldn't pass it up. Bought it from our chevy salesman who is a car collector. He has had the car since 1984 and it only has 63,000 miles on it. It was meticulosly cared for. Nothing on the car is worn. It doesn't rattle or shake. The doors still close like they were new. The engine comparment is clean as well as the interior. No rust, even the underside is still in excellent shape. So I feel like it was a great car to get. I plan on driving it and taking it to some car shows over the upcoming summer.

I know alot of people thought the engine was just so slow and I should put a 350 in it. This car just rares to go and gets a 1st and 2nd gear scratch without hardly touching the gas pedel. I like a car to stay as original as possible so I don't really plan on changing much. I just wanted to know as much background as I could on the car.
