seperater primer gun or different tips?

New to the body work scene..... DeVilbiss has a Finish Line 3 gun that comes in a master kit with four tips; 1.3,1.5,1.8, and 2.2. Is having an all purpose gun like that a good idea or is it better to buy individual guns? I kinda like the idea of having everything in one. Is there a reason not to?

Thanks,

extra size tips are great to have....but I've always used seperate guns...one for primer, one for base/sealer and one for clear. I've also bought the devilbliss guns...and they are great, and very afforadable.

Thanks. Any REASON why you have seperate guns? The thing with the DeVilbiss kit seems to be a decent gun and if all is involved is switching tips seems less expensive than buying seperate guns?

Im trying to gather some tools now while I have a dollar in my pocket.

think about it this way. you will HAVE to clean the gun anyways after every use. Might as well just buy the diff tips and use one gun if you are worried about cost.

Imagine this scenerio. You have put a gazillion hours in to getting the body straight and your ready for paint. You start laying down that awesome 150.00 a gallon color and it's flowing like glass. Just as your putting that last coat on your gun spits out a clump of primer that was hidden in the gun somewhere.

Now do you know why you should never use primer in a color gun, and never use color in a clear gun.....

Buy a knock off gun for primer if you want to save money.

There's nothing wrong with what you bought. I have just learned from burn that having more than one gun is the way to go.

for a one time job its no problem to use one for everything. just do complete tear down between primer and base and base n clear, and look in it real good to be sure its nice n clean. if your doing cars for cash then buy the extra guns. but for your own project one will do the trick.

devilbiss finish line is a decent gun for the price, not the best out there but a great average gun. i did my three stage candy job with a pair of them. now im using all sata equipment as i do alot of paint now and the best guns do a better job. now my devilbis guns are the dedicated primer gun.

I was looking on satas site and as a newbie to paint i am unsure as to what i am looking at. Which gun or guns would you suggest. I am planning on doing several of my own cars after i get some practice.
