How are TA fog lights mounted?

Woohoo! I have a new 3rd gen project car... an 87 TA

Anyway, the foglights are smashed. How do you get at those things? Is it possible to remove them from the car without removing any bottom panels (I do have the headlights off the car right now to fix them also, I can see the wiring but not the actual lights)?

Between the WS6 being disassembled in the garage, making me work out in the driveway, and the recent snow, it's not very likely that I'm going to get a chance to get under the car any time soon to give this a good hard look so I was hoping that someone could tell me what's involved without me having to get soaked and frozen.

The only real way is to get under the car and remove the panels right under them.

Well, that’s not what I really wanted to hear… I guess that means that I might as well finish up with the headlights and mount them again since that opening isn’t helping any.

Thanks

The mounts are held in place by 2 10mm bolts and also a plastic clip that goes thru the underside panel. If the housings are in good shape you can just replace the lens/reflector assembly as it just plugs in

You can purchase an aftermarket foglight kit from AZ or one of the others that will provide new lamps, reflectors and lenses that will swap right in to your stock housings, if your housings are good. 'Bout $18-20. Just take one of your lenses in to get the right size. Everything will come out from the front once you remove the two screws on each side of the lens.

Yea, I posted another thread about what to replace them with and got zero responses.

I believe that the blazer lights that people have been using have been discontinued and are out of stock most places. I did a little poking around and found some what look like nearly identical Pilot lights that I got for even cheaper, that from the dimensions and from the directions posted here look like they’ll work OK (I also found some at harbor freight that _look_ identical for $8, but they’re listed as being ˝” smaller in both dimensions, I’m betting they’re actually the same lights).

Considering we’re talking about steel housings and glass lights, I am wondering if I can get away with using some 100W bulbs in these or am I just asking to melt something/warp the bumper cover?

On a different but similar note, I found enough spare parts laying around the garage to completely build a new passenger side headlamp assembly (using the rebuilt motor out of the one that was there), and I’m short of just the pivoting part of the frame for the driver’s side, which I’ll steal from the formula tonight (forecast is for 17*F, 20mph winds and snow tonight…. That will be fun)

I wouldn't go too big on the wattage on these fogs. Power for them is routed through the switch. The relay just interrupts the circuit when the headlights/parking lights are off or the high beams are on.

$8 is about the cost of replacment lamps. I paid $18 for, I think, the Blazers last summer. Next time I'm in the store I'll check to see if they still carry them.
