Which hood to get?
Which hood to get?
Ok, so I'm thinking about getting a full set of fiberglass parts (except for the doors), and am stuck on a decision of what to get for a new hood. It's an '88 firebird. I have three choices that I'm thinking about:
The Twin Turbo style hood:

Ram air hood:

or GTA:

I've been siding with the twin turbo hood just because it's so different, but am not quite sure yet. Just wondering what everyone else's opinions were.

Car: Only a daily driver, but comin home
Engine: I have one that runs ;)
Transmission: Caged hamster that runs really fast
Axle/Gears: They are round, I know that much
Look at your local laws if the car is going to be driven alot. Some places do not allow ANYTHING that is not stock to be obstructing your view, such as my cowl hood is 6" and covers a good portion of the windshield, but I only take the car out when it is nice and it is obvious that it isn't a daily driven car.
Plus think of functionality. If you are running with a carbed motor, no point in a ram air hood, and vice versa, if you are running with a fuel injected motor, all a cowl hood will do is vent heat. If you are going to use the car at the track to race for money, you want the sleeper look, go with a stock as possible hood, I find it hard when at the track to get some one to race for anything unless it is a friend, and that is because it of my hood.
Just look at what you really like and what the car is going to be used for, there is nothing worse then buying something as expensive as a hood and not liking it!!

I never have seen a L-88 hood on a bird, just a suggestion, might not even look good, my wife has mentioned it on the 86 TA.

That twin turbo hood would look really cool IF... you could fill in the little grills at the rear of the cowl.

Only get the Ram Air hood if you have the 91-92 ground effects. Ram Air hoods only belong on Firebirds, not Camaros. The Twin Turbo hood is pretty slick, but I still think the GTA hood is the nicest hood you can get.
wow.. talk about some quite an equal standpoint on this one :x
wel, CI hoods are ok where I live, so the TT and RA should work just fine. It seems like if you're going for a slick look, then stick w/ GTA. Powerful = RA. And Different = TT. If it helps at all, I'm going ot stick w/ a pure-black paintjob, so the GTA won't even look "too" different than a typical, boring firebird hood. I can't imagine a RA hood being black however, so I'm not sure if that would be a good color to get it on. The TT, i'm sure would look just fine being black though..
