My Car Needs A New 3rd Brake Light!

When i had my car inspected last july they told me that the 3rd brake light wasnt working and that it needed to be replaced. Now i'll be done w/ school in about 5 weeks in which I want to take care of that ASAP. From what I understand, all i need is a bulb that goes in there. Is this true?

Also, if all i need is a new bulb to put in there, where do i get one and how much would it cost, and how difficult is it to install?

Mine broke too, the crappy plastic bulb holder broke in half. To take it apart, there are two T-15 torx screws on either side of the housing to take it off the hatch. If the bulb is blown you can get one at almost any store that sells auto parts. If the bulb holder is broken you could get on eBay or the BST section and try and find one. I opted to go LED with mine and ordered an upgrade kit from www.custom-leds.com. It was really easy to install and I was able to put the red lens back over it so it looks almost stock.

I bought the RS style from the same place for my 92. Got the complete housing, though I found out when it arrived that all I needed was the upgrade.

Here's a picture

Haha, that RS LED setup is pretty cool.

Ya, I went to get mine inspected last year and they said mine was broke too, all it needed was a bulb though. Hopefully the same for you, pretty easy to change.

Re: My Car Needs A New 3rd Brake Light!

I can't get mine to work. I have tried several junk yard ones. It seems like there is some kind of a short. Anyone ever have this problem and will the upgrade solve it. It seems like the bulb always has problems maintaining good contact. I will put it together and hit a bump and it stops working. I just took it off but would really like to make it work if possible.
