cowl 5in hood

ok i have an 84 camaro i blew the trans in, so im doing a bunch to it right now and i just installed a new intake and its a performer rpm. and its the one that is a inch taller then normal rpms. problem is my 2in cowl hood no longer fits with it when i put the carb and air filter on. does anybody have a picture of a car with a 4 or 5in cowl so i can see which i like more

Thanks, Ryan

is it the performer rpm air-gap? I dont see how that intake won't fit on a 2" cowl. Are you running a drop base air cleaner? I can fit the normal performer rpm intake, 650dp, and air cleaner under a stock hood. But my sig pic is a 4" cowl, but I have a much bigger setup than what you're talking about.

how can your setup not be able to fit under there?? i have a vic jr. with a 1" spacer (about 5/8" taller than an airgap), a 750demon, and a 9/16th inch raised base 14"x3" extreme filter.. the wing nut for the air cleaner barely clears my scoop.. and its maybe 2.5" at that part..

that doesn't look like a drop base air cleaner from those pics. Did you try looking to see if there's a brace under the hood that the air cleaner is hitting that needs to be cutout?

you need a drop base air cleaner. i have a performer rpm intake and a 700 double pumper and a 14x3 DROP BASE air cleaner all under a stock hood with no problem. ill take that hood though if you wanna get rid of it

I run a victor Jr. intake and a Holley 750 double pumper with a 14 inch drop base air cleaner under my stock hood also.

Re: cowl 5in hood

I had the same problem with my 85'. i ended up cutting a hole in my stock hood, and just letting it sit like that. But with a 1inch spacer, it only sticks out maube a 1/2 inch, and i dont have a drop base.

Re: cowl 5in hood

Just get a drop base cleaner and you'll be fine. That's the only "Ram Air" hood that should ever go on a Camaro, I hate seeing Pontiac hoods on a Camaro. 4-5" cowls on Camaros look too overdone and lame.

Re: cowl 5in hood

ive got a 4", on a bird, i can fit a drop base filter with a 3" filter under the stock hood no problem. i have my filter sitting high, because i eventually and going to seal up the bottom of the cowl from the engine bay and take advantage of some colder air.
