Re: z28 ground effect removal

Hello, I'm new here too with the same question as redZ. Just bought an 84 Z28. I need to remove the rocker ground effects for repainting. Is there a trick to removing them so they are not damaged? Look forward to hearing from those with experience.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: z28 ground effect removal

Not a Camaro owner myself...more of a firebird/trans am owner...but it seems to me that there may be more screws inside the front and rear wheel wells. My old trans am GFX came off quite easily once I had removed all visible screws, and eccentially camaro GFX should be the same. I'm sure someone will pipe in if I'm wrong. Best of luck to you.

Re: z28 ground effect removal

Door piece.. You have 5 nuts. 3 behind the door panel, 1 on each end of the door in the jamb.

Rocker piece...
A. You have about 7-8 screws under the car.
B. You have 1-2 nuts depending on year that is behind the trim in the rear, down low. you have to pull the bottom rear of the seat out, cut thru some rubber air seal stuff. This one is a bitch.
C. 2 nut/bolt ones going thru the front fender. Easiest to access via removing the plastic fender liner and reaching back in.
D. 4-5 screws in the door jamb area. You should easily see these.

Front chin spoiler..
Depends on the year. The 91/92 style has 4 spring clips where it meets the fenders. Then about 12 10mm bolts holding to the front nose.

rear fender pieces..
I have yet to remove. Appears to be some screws on bottom side, and some nuts via the "trunk"

Rear bumper..
handfull of plastic clips on bottom side. You pull the pin in the middle to remove the clip. Then via the "trunk" you have 3?? nuts on each side. You have to remove the tail lights and theres some more plastic clips. Then its also bolted to the same place as the licsense plate flip.

Let me know if I have my screw/bolt counts off. But that gives you the general idea of what is where and how it needs to be tackled.
