z28 center caps..i dont get it

Hey all probably a stupid Question. You all know the stock centercaps on the 15 inch aluminum z28 wheels right? Well of course these were gone off my car long ago. Im probably going to pick up an aftermarket set from ebay but...I just dont get how they pop on there. I dont see any provision for the wheel to accept a centercap. There are no "tangs" or such attached to the wheel for the centercap to secure to..Now mind you i have a couple of junk caps that ive tried, the stock ones with the metal tangs and the aftermarket with the plastic tangs. but they just dont pop on For example, my 84 sport couple with the stock 14 inch steel rally wheels has "tangs" attached to the wheel, which secure the center cap on..(poorly). Ive been tryin to figure this out forever..duh. All the people that have the same wheels around here dont have the caps either..so noone to ask..Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated, as I just installed a nice set of 235/60/15 dunlop gt qualifiers, and It just looks so crappy without them. Also, when I figure out how they go on there, Im gonna rig em up so they NEVER come off...lol j/k.

The factory GM centre caps I bought for my 84 have metal tangs attached to them that fit into a recess in the wheel centre. It is easiest done by removing the wheel and using pliers or a screwdriver to help ease the tangs into place without too much mucking around. I guess yours should be the same.

Yah I was lookin at it today and it seems like there is an extremely narrow lip that is machined into the face of the wheel..still havin trouble figuring out how those tangs pop on to that...I definitely need to find someone who still has the centercaps installed and see how they mount on theirs...

Mine pop right in. The tension caused by the clips holds them inside the wheel.

Re: z28 center caps..i dont get it

Some of the aftermarket wheel center caps don't have the metal retainer ring. These have a tendency to come off if you hit a hard bump/pothole.All the caps use the alignment dowel pins I believe. Before you install your new caos make sure all these aholes are clear/empty.

One seller on Ebay sells the correct center caps.Look for Brock's Camaro and Firebird parts.A set goes forabout $50 last time I looked.
