Question about prepping GFX

Hi,
I asked this question in my other thread, but wasn't getting any responses.

My question is, about prepping the GFX.

I've removed most of the old paint using SEM bumper paint remover.
I've also started to sand the remaining paint with 120 grit, and plan on going over it again with 220.

Do I need to get every ounce of old paint off? or just make it's smooth? Also how smooth/rough does the plastic need to be for painting?

Re: Question about prepping GFX

you can make them look pretty good just scuffing the old paint, no need to get it down to the plastic unless theres some big gouge or chunk missing. so as long as the parts are smooth the paint wont matter

Re: Question about prepping GFX

I'm getting ready to paint my nose and lower valance myself. I just happened to find and almost EXACT match of silver in dupli color bumper paint. I will be sanding all loose paint off, and scuffing em up, and painting them soon. Ill take before and after pics, I'm certain I can make em look nice.

Great, I've been sanding and sanding, and was starting to think I would see through them soon (lol)

I was hoping as long as it's smooth it would be OK.

Re: Question about prepping GFX

What if the bumper/gfx have the spider web effect going on, do they need to be sanded completly down for that?

Re: Question about prepping GFX

i think even with spiderwebbing you should only have to sand it smooth and do a few coats of primer before paintnig again... not 100% sure tho. good luck

Re: Question about prepping GFX

Smooth until the spider webbing is gone or just plain smooth and let the primer fill in a spiderweb?
