notchback ebay scam this ticks me off

So im looking at this ad and it clams the notchback is a very very rear dealer installed option

e-bay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...128916048&rd=1

how would you interpret this, its not a factory gta notchback. It seem like he is misleading the buyer, for all you know some kids father could be trying to surprise his kid with this notchback his kid talks about all the time and BAM comes in and it the wrong thing.

Is there even a such thing as a " DEALER installed option"
It looks a lot like one of those cheep ones to me.

if it really matters to you that much just look at the "report this item" link at the bottom of the page on his ebay auction page.

nope - I saw the ad before and agree with you. Thing is - it's in primer so you (and the seller) should know that it's not an original notchback piece unless it's seen the body shop. Oh well - doesn't look like anybody is buying it like they typically do for a real notch.

Re: notchback ebay scam this ticks me off

Anesthesis - the reason we care is because it does not have the same shape as a factory notchback. If there were a company making factory-style notches, alot of us would have them...

To compare it to your corvette, it's like them offering a front nose that they say is a "rare factory part" that actually has a different shape and follows different body lines.

Ive never seen someone get so upset over a crappy ebay auction, its not really a scam, hes selling something, you can see what it is, pretty much figure it out from there.

Re: notchback ebay scam this ticks me off

Simple....If he selling an aftermarket notchback hatch, and claims it is a rare factory option hatch, then he is lying. Report him to eBay & notify the Buyer of the scam.

But he didn't claim that it was a rare factory option. He said 'rare dealer installed'. Which the more I read this thread, it sounds true. Nobody here has seen that notchback before, so as long as at least 1 dealer installed it, it qualifies as both 'rare' and 'dealer installed'.

If it is aftermarket, then it isn't 'rare dealer installed'...it isn't a factory item, which he implies. He should point out that it is a REPLICA of a 'rare dealer installed' item.

How do you figure?

If dealer gets a set of floor mats from a third party and installs them, they are 'dealer installed', but not factory. The seller never claimed the item was factory. He just said 'dealer installed'.

When I ordered my sierra (almost 10 years ago) I had the dealer install a trailer hitch, and a bed liner, which was on the purchase contract and rolled into the financing. Both were dealer installed, but NEITHER were from GM.

If the seller said "rare factory option", I think I'd agree with you folks.

With that said, I came across this the other day. A 'rare one year only, 1987 GTA notchback". Now that's BS! No motor or tranny, complete body with 'shark tooth hood' + digital dash. Guy only wanted $500, but man was it ugly. I showed my friend who was considering buying it for resale value. Probably should have, the hatch alone was probably worth $500 on TGO.

Boy, that's simple...The dealer only installed those, FROM THE FACTORY. It's not like, those were ever an aftermarket item, that could be ordered on your brand new car.

So, FOR THE NOTCHBACK HATCHES, they had to be factory items, to be dealer installed.

According to what mandate? The dealer can install anything it wants. I used my truck as an example. Dealer installed doesn't mean it has to be factory. It means DEALER installed.

I think you folks are getting way to emotional over this. It's not a scam. It's a guy selling an ugly part. If someone wants it' they'd bid.
