Custom Body Parts
I was looking around and saw this Third Gen conversion found here:
http://www.kitcarmag.com/featuredveh...amaro_replica/
If i wanted to just take my car and do custom body parts. Would it be extremely hard?
Would it be better to use fiberglass or molding plexiglass?
I would love truly make a custom bodied car, and would rather do it myself than buy someones kit.
Input please?

it's called the Evoluzione, do a search on this board and you'll find about 5,000 posts. some people like it, some people would rather drive their car off a cliff. i would say you'd have to be extremely talented with fiberglass to make all custom body parts by yourself.

Re: Custom Body Parts
I don't really like the Evo I or II, but I certainly wouldn't make an Evo II... those doors do not emulate lamborghini doors at all. The whole reason behind the "butterfly" doors is to be able to park the car in a normal parking space and since many exotics are already very wide, the doors open vertically in order to give the driver room to get out. The way the doors are on the Evo II, you'd probably run a greater risk of screwing up somebody's vehicle next to yours than you would with the stock hinge hardware.

I wonder if you can just purchase the interior parts. I like the dash. The rest, well it's just too over styled for my taste.

Re: Custom Body Parts
well how hard would it be to take an eclipse bumper... and maybe find a way to mold it and make it work for a camaro? in theory it should not be too hard huh?

Re: Custom Body Parts
Why would you do that? And why do you think it wouldn't be hard? That's going to be alot of fab work. I'm thinking if you have to ask then you can't do it properly.

In my opinion, if you like parts of it, contact the website, if you go over some posts, the son of the guy who invented that kit posts comments here once in a while. If money is what you're worried about, then wait till you have it. Lots of parts I'd like to have, but as a student, going to have to wait.

Yeah it probably is very hard. But i just would like to know, as far as a goal thing. Is that has to be my masterpeice, i'd like to know before i started. I figure nothing wrong with sizing up a project, BEFORE i undertook one.
Whoever that is that could do it, had to dream first, and that is all that i am asking to do...

THe only think I like about it is the interior
Re: Custom Body Parts
Dude, think about it, if you're asking us about how difficult it would be to do this yourself, then I wouldn't even bother. You tell me how to fit an import bumper on a camaro. And I bet you're going to waste more money trying to have that done than just buying the whole damn body kit.

i have over 25 hours into my custom fiberglass hood and i'm only making a few cuts and vents in certain spots. it's alot of work to do it right. my interior is all custom fiberglass and carbon fiber. i haven't done it all but to add up all the hours... well 14 pieces at roughly 30 hours a piece you can do the math. it's time consuming to say the least.
