Underside/interior help
I am in the process of a restoration on my 85 z28 and was wondering what everybody likes to do with their floorboards. Would it be best to prime, then undercoat assuming there is no rust? Or is it the best to paint? I will probably put sound deadener on top of it. Just wanna find out what direction to go...it's completely torn apart right now. Thanks for any/all input!

i por-15'd mine, dynomat extreme the inside and used a 1000 series carpeting with the matte backing option for more sound deadening. i originally wanted to keep the underside body color but if you drive it that's just not practicle in any way.

Re: Underside/interior help
thanks for the tips guys. sounds like por 15 is the way to go. i just pulled the carpet and the floor still looks glossy and mint, and the underside just has surface rust so i'm really lucky. i just want to prevent for the future.

Por 15 works great. A lot of guys on here are just shaking their heads in disbelief that you are even retoring a 3rd gen. Seems they are ticking up in price and the older cars have already been scarfed up. Good luck on your restoration.

Let them shake their heads...i've seen people restore MUCH MUCH worse cars. I love my thirdgen. I bought my first 91 rs as a roller, threw a built 355 in it, ran 12.0 all day with a t5, and all my friends still tell me i'm dumb for sellin it even though they said it was stupid to begin with. Anyways, i ordered the por15 floor board kit, and plan on doing the top with it and the underside with the same stuff later.

Move to Nevada or some where dry, not so much rust here. More dust than rust.
On the restoring thing I saw a perfect Dodge Omni, the other day, thing was perfect, guy just finished a 4 1/2 year resto on it. Had it out for 1 day and I was the 5th person admiring it. Interior and exterior were factory perfect. Painted factory redish color, only way nicer and shinier, rebuilt engine The engine was all nicely painted and powder coated, braided lines and wired up real nice. Way off topic, sorry about that. But it is like that corn movie, If you build it, they will come

Re: Underside/interior help
That's the thing about the car i'm restoring, there is VERY minimul rust on the floor, it's all surface and i could probably just grind it down and paint but i want it bulletproof for the future(not that it will ever see rain/snow/hail/etc ever again.) But yeah i'd love to move down there and be able to work on cars all year round w/o a heater, not to mention ride a motorcycle pretty much every day.
