Anybody know how to remove the steel lip around windows?

Ok, people, all that's left for me to strip right now... are the door parts... and Holy F**k. Lot's of issues here trying to remove all the weather stripping. First question, have a hardtop and around the roof edges, there's a steel lip, then on the inside, the weatherstripping. Can the lips even be removed? And how do we remove that weatherstripping without damaging it? I need to remove it to dissolve the old paint that last idiot put on it, and of course moisturize it.

And here's another one, to remove the door's outer weatherstripping, it seems as if I'd have to remove the power windows (which looks crazy complicated) to get to the screws which holds the stripping. AND also must remove the side mirrors which blocks other side screws. Has anyone ever removed the door stripping otherwise?

Thanks again oh mighty third gen gurus.

Steel lip? Are you talking about the weatherstripping channels that go around the window on the body side? Those are removable with a screw driver once the weatherstripping has been removed.

Great! I could of sworn it was attached to the body when I looked last night. I'll give that another try in that case.

take out the weatherstriping, then you can unsrcrew the weatherstrip channel.
the drip rail is welded on, but its weak.
a lil tack here and there.
i removed mine with a 5 in 1 painters tool.
looks so much more slick without that metal there.

I second that question, do you have a pic? I've never considered leaving it off.

if you are talkin about the part that is along the window opening then that is easy. you know the triangle by the mirror loosen the nuts on it to get the remaining screw. i did mine in like 5 mins off with old and on with the new
