Hood won't shut after engine build up, really need help!

Alright, I did a build up on my 87 trans am. Everything is put back together go to strap the air cleaner on the carborator but there is one problem. The hood hood just barely won't close. The Front of the air filter is hitting the hood and keeping it from shutting. I don't know what to do, I tried a low profile one but the front end of the round disk keeps hitting. Does anyone have a solution that won't restrict the power and doesn't require modding/changing the hood? I really could use the help.

try a smaller diameter air filter housing like a 9in or so that might help

You could try bending the filter base. I had to do that on my 82 with an IROC hood.
