Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

hey all...ive done a bunch of searching and found some examples of pics in various threads but was looking to have one thread with all the pics of Camaro's with the Daytona Iroc Hood and also 2 inch cowl hoods. PLEASE POST pics of any and all daytona iroc & 2" cowl hoods (your own or ones you found)

I'm in the final stages of picking out which one im gonna go with and just wanted to see everyhting in one place..feel free to add input/opinions on preference.

Right now im leaning toward the daytona hood cuz i like it more but im concerned about the fit of it since its fiberglass and how much labor will cost.. can anyone tell me how much it cost them for labor doing the install on it? recommend a vendor? has anyone had issuies with fiberglass hoods, this is my first venture into an aftermarket hood so i have many concerns. im all ears but i need to make a decision soon since my car is getting some work done on it and this would be the final addition. thanks everyone !!

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

if the daytona 1 is that hood with the slits in the side that looks like somethin you'd put on a import please dont get it, thats by far the uglyiest hood i've ever seen for an f-body... also you would be getting a steel cowl hood? thats gotta be pretty expensive.. I've never seen a cowl hood for an 3rd gen made from anything other than fiberglass, but than again I never looked for one because I wanted to weight reduction of the fiberglass...

I'll post pics of my camaro in flat black with the daytona hood on it. I love it, you still get the cowl and keep your louvers!!

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

I think they look ok with the louvers, but the blister on it looks kinda funny to me, maybe just because that's the 1st time I've seen it with the blister on it.

I think a cowl hood looks ok too, don't get me wrong.

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

Do these help? They were taken during painting. the sides can be cut out too allow for extra air flow, as well as below the louvers (if you made the louvers functional).

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

JSISTHECHAMP05 & 86NITERIDER --- can you guys give me a little input on how your daytona iroc hood installation went? im concerned about it being fiberglass.. was there alot of labor/fitment issues? Ive heard that its very common for fiberglass hoods to have to be worked over to make them fit. I(trying to keep labor costs down at the body shop). Did you encouter alot of issues or was it just paint and bolt-in?

anyone who has a fiberglass hood please chime in on this.,..

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

Mine bolted right in. I had to grind the fiberglass on the front directly above the nose and at the sides around the rubber stops. I also did the hood pins on the side. This hood is very light and I did not want to see the paint crack or spider web around the front corners.

Neither IMO. The 2" cowl is nice but overdone. The Daytona hood is just so damn ugly. Just go for the cowl....

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

i love the daytona hoods. mine fits fine. the only thing is you have to work with it to get it perfect. i don't mean grinding or anything like that. just adjusting where the hood bolts to the hood supports. the smallest change in where you bolt makes the hood move a lot.

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

This hood looks awesome. I've been contemplating getting one for my car. Only question, what about rain? This hood draws direct air in from outside right? well when its raining, is there a filter on th inside or something to keep the rain from dropping into the engine bay?

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

I've had functional hood louvers on my car for about 4 months and have not had a single problem yet with the rain. BTW, it does rains quite a bit in Oregon.

mine doesn't let air in because the side vents are closed. it's still a functional hood but from the back of the hood.

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

Yeah, thanks thats a HUGE help, because I live in Hawaii, and I can tell you that it rains 3-5 times a day here in the winter. I'm probably not installing it until the summer time, but I was just curious for next year or something. Thanks again, this site is a huge help to a lot of problems.

If you want to show off your new hood just start a "new" thread and post "photos".

Re: Daytona Iroc & 2" Cowl Hood debate

I have a 4in bolt on cowl with hood pins ....with out the pins the hood lifts in the corners. ..but it was just paint, line up, and tighten bolts...

Currently the iroc is in primer. ....
