Just started on it today, got about 6 rows done on the first brake section.

Those one for the group buy, I don't see anywhere what type of LEDs or the number they are using etc. Is it a retro for just the turns, or everything?

If they use actual superflux, they'll cost way more then 234.00. If they just cheap out and use 5mm LEDs or superflux knockoffs, I would no way spend that much money on them.

I'm curious to learn more about them tho.

I hate to a pain in the butt. But could you come up with a parts list for each board with there size and dimesion of the board? Could you also do a schematic for each board?
Also in the picture above did you put the same resistor in the side panels to match the same dimmnes as the tail/brake panel? Did also use a diode in the side panel circuit?
I want to start doing this right away. Im only going doing the rear lights.

How exactly did you remove the cover from taillights? I haven't looked at mine but I thought they were melted/seamed, or glued ?

Any UPDATED Video's? How much did it end up costing you?

the tail lights actually open up pretty easy, there are a couple screws on the top (they are covered by some screw caps.) Remove those, and the only thing hold them on are the the locking tabs on the bottom. So you just have to slowly pry along the top, and also on the tabs until they come apart.

I was really surprised how little there is, keeping these things together! The front turns tho, that's a different story. Those I had to get out the dremmel to get those open.

No real updates just slowly started working on the other side.

the front ones look a bit to square just my you could put like two on the sides to give it a more round look just an idea but they still look sweet!

Since I dont have the patience as cdoyle. I decide to design and purchase a couple made up pcb boards. So far I got the backup board and the tail/ brake board. I used 8mm leds for the backup board since that is what I already purchased and a set of superFlux Leds for the tail/ brake board. Here is drawings of both boards.

Ok I should get my first set of prototype bords in a couple days. All this means is they are not coated and have no silkscreen on them to show were the componets go. There not cheap about $90 for a pair but ofcourse the more you order the cheaper they get and if you order 10 or more each board goes down by more then half. I should complete the back up lights in a couple days after that then I will work on the tail/ brake lights. I still have to design the turn signal boards and then I will have to come up with something for the side panel tail lights.

Im not sure if you would but I think you should look into getting these done professionally as maybe a new product for camaros?

if u dont feel like doin all that work u can buy pre made ones that come in different colors and plug into your light socket they might not look as good as cdoyle's but they do a pretty good job

I got my boards and finished the back up, turn and tail/ brake panels. All I have to do is order the side panel boards and I'll be done. I also odered the sockets to soilder the wires into them and then just plug them into the stock tail harness but soildering the wires in is a PITA. I think I may use weather pack connectors instead of the stock tail sockets.

I used expressPCD for the program to make them and ordered them through the program. Im going to use silicone to glue them into the housing. I still have a small bit of trimming to the baords and the housing it self to fit them in snug. Im doing the wrap around the same as cdoyle, Two small triangular boards I just ordered. It cost me alot cause I only ordered two prototype baords each so its puts it at around $40 a board, but if you order a good number of production baords the price drops lower.

There are only a few parts to buy but there are many different types of Superflux LED's. They are made by numerous manufactures and have different operating specs. I was considereng selling these but I would have to get a min. of 25 orders to set a price ot $265 for a set. That is still high and its a lot of work for a very little return. So I will just pass for now. If I could get a manufacture interested in my design that would be great but I dont think it will happen. So if anyone wants to try this them selves, I will gladly share my files that I made with expressPCB, but realize that if you do not use the same exact LED's I used it may not work correctly.

I think DerekKraese has shown the most easiest way to make these yourself. Not having to solder in the jumpers between LEDs speeds a project like this up a ton.

To buy something like this premade, using true Lumileds superflux for the tail/brake sections would cost a ton of money. So making them yourself, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you're one of the few that have them, and also saved a ton of cash too.

Side panels now completed. Now all I have to do is mount the panels in the taillight housings and put them on the car and see how they look.

I have a few days off next week, and going to finish up mine too.

Still trying to decide how I want to mount the boards, not sure if I want to mount them back more into the housing, or closer to the lens.

I think closer to the lens gives a better look to the LEDs.

Hey DerekKraese, I just e-mailed www.clearcorners.com to see if they would like to be the company involved in getting these LED tail lights into production. I have talked with them before about this but now that you have everything they will need we might be able to get these put into production. I am awaiting the e-mail back. I also told them we are looking to just get the setup to install into the lenses ourselves, as many of us who want this are going to have the custom tails from KLEARZ. Sound good?

If they produce a kit for this, I would be interested depending on price. I've always wanted to do LED taillights, but I hate soldering and I'm not very good at it when it involves circuit boards.

They both look great... Bu tI tend to like cdoyles more. Not simply for the fact that the leds line up with the grid better(not saying not centered, just the rows are evenly distributed into each grid, not behind the separations), but for that fact that he took the initiative to take on the project for himself.

I thought about a project like this when I had my rs...looks like something I'll have to do when I get my '85 Iroc. Then just for kickers and to be a little bit of an individual, I'll do the '98 Z28.

Oh and since they still dont make any non-coupe after markets for my G6, I'll fab me up some clear lenses and then do something similar to them ^.^

I realized my LEDs didnt line after I had already orded my pcb boards. I was thinking about doing this project for a long time but just didnt know where to start. CDoyle had a great idea and I liked how his was coming along so I thought Id do the same thing. At the begining I had no itentions of doing this for others but I thought since there were so many people interested that I would try to make them for others but as soon as I got into it I realized the long process of making each board would take forever to actually make enough to sell and I just didnt have the time for something like that, plus I would almost get nothing in return for so much work. So thats why I thought a company that already make LED tailights would be interested in making these for the people that wanted them. But all in all I did do this project for myself.
