Removal of headlight bracket...how hard is it?

Hello all,

I recently wrecked my 92 Camaro and I need to replace the headlight retaining bracket or headlight panel. It looks like it's made of grey fiberglass, holds the headlights in position and runs across the front of the car.

How much trouble is that piece to take out? I have to get one out of a car in the junkyard and I want to make sure I take the proper tools. Do I have to take the entire nose off? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its not too tough it just takes a bit of time.

You will have to remove the front bumper cover, at least thats the easiest way i've found. You need to unbolt the front ground effect from the fender then there are about 4 bolts that hold the front bumper cover to the fenders on each side. There are also 2 bolts on the center support along with a handful of small bolts around the hood latch area. there are also 4 bolts or so underneath the front. I just pulled one from a junk yard and it took me about 30-45 min to get it off. Bring a couple extensions for your socket (preferably with a wobble) also I found a 1/4" ratchet was easier to use since it's smaller and you can get more of a rotation out of it.

Good luck getting yours fixed

If I remember correctly, my bumper removal kit had 10mm/11mm open end wrench, along with a 10mm long deep socket on a 1/4 inch socket wrench. I used the 10mm open wrench to get the highest nut on the right side if youre standing in front of the car. I couldnt turn it from underneath, so I had to turn it with like 45 degree rotation increments. Took a while. I took the bumper cover and headlight bar off as one peice.

I think the little screws that mount the top of the bumper cover V shape to the headlight bar are 7mm or 8mm or maybe 9/32, just bring em all.

Re: Removal of headlight bracket...how hard is it?

Hey guys............

I did this the easy way..........I went to a swap meet and bought a whole nose cone for $20.00. I pulled the bracket out and everything was intact. A few of them I looked at were already broken........looks like even a small tap causes these things to crumble.

Anyone need a nose cone for an 82-84 Z28?

Thanks again!

Tony
