Re: VIN check
doesn't carfax cost money? why would someone else do it then?
and BTW, posting a full VIN is a VERY BAD IDEA!!!! your car can have its identity stolen, i would highly suggest you remove it.

Re: VIN check
Why is posting a Vin a bad idea... VINs are basically public info... They are not hard to find or collect... Looking for a "rare" one? Head to your local carshow and write it down... I was at a car show this summer and there was a guy there with an ultra rare 1972 Olds 442 W30 Convertible... He proudly showed off the VIN to everyone that walked by and explained how the VIN proved his car was a real 1 of 113 W30 rag top..
This seems to be the only forum that is worried about VINs... Whats the risk?
This sounds like advice based on urban myth...
The only thing I could come up with is that with a VIN a dealer could cut a set of keys for my car... Go ahead and have keys cut for my third gen... I replaced the door cylinders over 10 years ago...

Re: VIN check
I feel sorry for the millions of owners who have their cars parked and in parking lots, advertised on Ebay and the bazillion other places their VIN's can be spotted.

Re: VIN check
isn't the whole point that you can reference it? and I'm sure you could prove it is your car b/c it was register at least 15yrs ago. when it was bought new. I would give mine out as long as i was selling it. wouldn't just give it out though. That seems kinda weird to give something like that out.

Re: VIN check
I feel that if you've been warned about the risk, and still want to post your VIN, go ahead. Others feel different. But hey, this is a great site, and if they want to go the extra mile, then that's their business.
