camaro ground effects
I have an 87 camaro berl. with no ground effects. I am confused if I need to get a new front and rear bumper for ground effects? Can it be 82-92 or does it need to be a specific year? What about the side skirts and others?

Re: camaro ground effects
You can if you want it to look like AZZ, the 82-84 GFX are different, the 85-90 GFX are different and the 91-91 GFX are different and IIRC correctly you need the correct bumper covers from those yeras
Re: camaro ground effects
In My Opinion, I would leave it as is.
#1 There are wayyyyyy more Camaro's with Ground Effects than without (all 88-92's were ground effect cars) I rarely see any without anymore, and when I do, I take notice, because it is so different to what is normally seen.
Buy one with a junk motor and interior and swap all your stuff over.
#2 I just don't care for Ground Effects, I think these cars look cleaner without. The whole time I owned my 88 Camaro, I wished I would've had a 82-87 Sport Coupe.
But at the end of the day it is your car, and as I always say do what YOU want, not what others like.

Re: camaro ground effects
That would depend on what it is worth to you. I have an 87 sport coup and am going to be putting the ground effects from a 89 RS on it. I personally don't really care about how much work it is (within reason) because I like it a lot more and its something I want to do.
To me it is worth it because I love the look with the ground effects on. In my opinion, these are one of the few cars that look good with ground effects. There is the wanting to be different aspect of all of this, but keep in mind that basically anything you do, someone has done or will do. Just do what you think looks good to the car.

I don't think it would be worth it. If you want it ground effects that bad, either get a car and swap your stuff over, or sell your car and buy a new one.
Both bumpers will need to be replaced. The rear bumper has the ground effects built into it(its all one piece), and the front bumper is needed to bolt the chin spoiler onto the car(atleast for 91-92, i assume the rest are the same?).
For the rest of the gfx you'd need to drill holes to bolt them and their brackets onto the car. If you have a parts car with everything, then maybe i would attempt it.

It may just be me, but I really don't see how swapping your interior, engine, and everything else you have on your car to another car is less work than putting on a body kit...
Re: camaro ground effects
I just put GFX on my non GFX 84.
It really isn't all that hard to do.
I had to swap out the front bumper (not tough at all)
Then because I wanted the 91/92 style GFX, swapped out the rear bumper (really easy)
Now the tough part were the side skirts, I had to weld a bracket along each side for the GFX to mount too. Really not that big of a deal, did it in an afternoon.
For the door, you'll have to drill the holes for the posts on the GFX, that's a little scary since it's hard to line up where they need to be drilled. But really wasn't that bad.
If you get everything before hand, you can do the project in about a day or so.

everyone is right and wrong..
yes both front and rear bumpers need to be replaced, not really hard but can be costly especially to find a nice set plus youll need to repaint them.
door pieces are just holes along with the rear ones.not hard to do but get a donor car to measure the exact location of the holes otherwise theyll never fit right and look like ***.too close to "eyeball"and guess where to drill.
lower rocker panels are the tough ones, actually theyre the easiest because the bolt on but you need the inner support bracket.these you cant buy.you need to "make one" which i wouldnt or you need to find a donor car and somehow remove the brackets, then youll need to weld them on. again not that hard but if you cant cut and weld your s.o.l. and now youre paying again, adding to the overall cost . then youll still have to have all the g/f finished to match which cost more, not including the price of a g/f set.those are going anywhere from 100-200 for a set depending on condition.thats w/o shipping.the side pieces can be expensive because they are too long and qualify for an "oversized" package charge. the front spoiler maybe the hardest to find(in good shape) and the most expensive.
you have to ask yourself 2 questions,1-do i really want g/fs for the time and money it involves? 2- is my car even worth the cost of adding g/f.do i love it that much that i wouldnt be better off selling the car and buying an iroc with g/fs already on it.?

Re: camaro ground effects
or you can be like me and have a wrecked bertilina needing a nose and just do the swap.....the biggest deal on the body kit is the rockers.......angle stock works well......as far as getting stuff to line up.......the kit flows with the body lines of the car....put 2 and 2 together..........there is no need to make a 1000 dollar project out a 200 dollar add on, unless of course you have to paint the stuff, which would make it a 600 dollar project lol

Re: camaro ground effects
For those of you that are concerned with the mounting brackets for the rockers, it's not a big deal.
1. They used to be available from the dealer (and cheap) and there still may be some left in the system. I have not checked in a while though.
2. They can be removed from a parts car very easily, just drill out the factory spot welds
3. They don't need to be welded on either. A series of 1/8 inch holes and #8 sheet metal screws are more than strong enough for the application.
Installing the gfx is not hard at all, just take your time, do a lot of measuring and it will turn out nicely.
