How much would you pay?
For a 86 Trans am, thats been sitting for 13 years? I saw it out in a driveway in my sub on some random street i dont go down...
ive been trying to get a hold of the guy and buy it... the body is straight, and mine isnt, but my drivetrain works, this one probably doesnt from sitting.
I could make one good car.
im thinking 500$ cash and I walk away with it?
What would you guys offer.

Before you talk price, find out if the seller has a clear title in hand for it. Take some cash with you and be ready to make a deal on the spot. If it turns out to be a killer deal, don`t give the seller time to change his mind. Cash in hand buys a lot of cars on the cheap.

Re: How much would you pay?
I find what works best for vehicles sitting for some time is to ask the guy, "Interested in getting rid of the car? I can haul it off for you right now." Note that money is not involved in this question. If he seems hesitant, offer $100. Once money is involved, they'll usually start to negotiate.
I, personally, wouldn't pay more than $200.

Wow, you guys are a bunch of cheapskates
If I were the owner and had a straight original car (I would assume since the car hasn't been driven half of it's life) and you offered me $100 for it, I would tell you to get off my property. Without seeing the car, $500 is a fair/non-insulting starting point.

I find it works better to ask the owner if they would like to sell, then ask them what they would have to have for it and if they have a clear title.this way you have a starting point for the price nogotiations.( I got a 82 Camaro this way. It sat for 9 years and has some rust just from setting from water leaking where the seams leaked from the sealer cracking but the body itself was pretty staraight. Got it for $200 (was what he wanted and i paid on the spot and got title so he didnt have time to change mind)and found some nice tools and $28.36 worth of change under the back seats.
Good Luck.

Re: How much would you pay?
I agree that it is much more tactful to make a fair offer after asking if they want to sell the car, or asking them what they need to get for it. Offering to take it for free or shooting some lowball offer would make me, as the car owner, pretty angry that you had trespassed on my property in order to not only bother, but then insult me.

I see were you guys are coming from on the insulting thing. Very first thing im gonna ask is if will he sell it, and has a title. then talk money. a fair condition one is worth 1230$ from kelly blue book, running lol.
I might luck out and get it cheap if the trans or something doesnt work
im gonna stop by today again and see if anyone is home to talk to.

Re: How much would you pay?
I bought my 87 Trans Am off ebay, it was sitting for along time, the mailman bought it off the owner (for something like 300), then spent probably 500-1000 fixing it up, then found out he was moving to FL so he sold it to me for 2,000.

Re: How much would you pay?
If I cannot start the car, it's worth it weight in scrap only, which about ~$150-$200 for these cars around here. Would you still want the same price for an '85 Camry, "straight and original"? Of course not. A car is a car, unless it's actually something somewhat rare(a '67 Firebird, for example). However, even then, I think sellers wanting $3k for a roller with rust is insane. (Ever tried to find a second gen f-body? Those guys are crazy with their pricing!)

Re: How much would you pay?
Well I stopped by the house on my way to school this morning, and I caught him on his way to work.
We chatted for a bit about the car and mine, he bought it in 88 from a dealer. stopped driving it cause the #4 cylinder stopper doing anything and they couldnt figure it out.
he said he has thought about selling it soon, cause he doesnt want it.
It was also garaged up until about a year and half ago when they needed more space in the garage, lol.
hes leaving on business till sunday and hes gonna call. got my fingers crossed

Re: How much would you pay?
Depending on who you mean by "they could`nt figure it out", you could have a real find there. It may be an easy fix. I got my `74 El Camino from a Ford dealer 10 years ago in LA for nothing if I hauled it away. It had been sitting on their back lot for 5 years because it would`nt start and none of their mechanics could figure it out. It needed a new distributor. It was clean, needed paint, interior. I drove it for 10 years with no problems with almost all original parts. I still drive it when the Iroc is down.

Re: How much would you pay?
we didnt really talk price, maybe talked to him for 5 mins, he showed me inside the car and whatnot. Well see what he does when i hear from him again, if not ill stop by and get a real answer.
I hope its something simple to, like fuel delivery or spark. I'd be one happy camper.
