Rubber Under Coating???

Ive had my camaro completley repainted and the body has no rust but under the car is pretty rusty. I was wondering if would be a good idea to spray with rubber under coating? Someone told me that it will make the bottom rust faster, by holding in the moisture. Just wondering what you guys think?

Re: Rubber Under Coating???

Even better than a wire brush lol ... get a little right angle die grinder. Then get a back-up pad kit for it and find some 3M discs. Not the sandpaper discs, you need the scotch-brite type discs.

Just like this picture:

Re: Rubber Under Coating???

This might be a job for the summer out in the drive way, not a job for the winter in a cold garage lol. Thank you.

Re: Rubber Under Coating???

It's to late for rubber under coating now. The rust is already there. Get yourself an anglegrinder and a cupped knotted wirewheel and about 20 hours of free time and remove as much rust and paint as you can. Then hit it with POR-15.

Re: Rubber Under Coating???

I am not sure what that would do to it, but I don't know why you would go with that instead of POR-15 (other than price I suppose). I put POR-15 down on the inside of my floor pan and I must say that it is some really good stuff. Its like thick paint that dries quickly and is very hard once it does. It is supposed to be rust proof, so you can't really go wrong with it if your trying to prevent rust.

I am going to start taking the rust off the bottom of my car with a wire brush and paint it with POR-15 (as soon as I get the engine, transmission, and exhaust out ) as others have suggested, just not sure if I should spray or brush it on. Thats what I would recommend doing.

I did the entire inside part of the floor pan with about 3/4 of a quart, and that was brushed on. I don't think there would be any problem doing it with a quart (especially if sprayed on).

I was in the same position with not wanting to have it shipped, but I decided to wait because its worth it. I am glad I waited on it. If you think about it, waiting a day or two to make something last years to come is worth it.

Just my 2 cents, its really up to what you want to do

A A quart is all you need to do the entire underside. And you'll still have plenty left over.
