super slow car
super slow car
so my car is realllllly slow! i hate it. i have a 5spd v6 89 camaro. yes i know what's you're gonna say: "its a v6 that's why it's slow" but seriously it takes forever to accelerate! it takes like 30 seconds or something to get to 50mph.....
what could it be?
what could it be?

Re: super slow car
It shouldn't take that long to accelerate. Its a V6, but they are pretty peppy for what they are.
We do need more information though. Does she studder, shake, buck, etc? Any resent tune up work? Stuff like that.
/edit: And something like this should probably go in the V6 section of the forums, since it has nothing to do with the body of your car.

Re: super slow car
i just took it to the mechanics and they said that it needs a tune up and that it would be like 700 dollars to fix it. they said the reason that it is slow is because its leaking oil onto wires that are going to the spark plugs but since the wires are deteriorating and have oil on it its not speeding up. but 700 dollars sounds a lil too ridiculous for me.
my car doesn't shake or anything. it runs fine. but when i am going like 55mph the rpms are at 5000....

do the basic tune up stuff yourself, plugs wires cap and rotor, air filter, oil change and filter/fix oil leak, and fuel filter. does it through any codes?

Re: super slow car
Why are your rpms at 5000 when doin 55? Are you not up shifting? That could be one problem your having. You do kno you have to shift a manual transmission car right?

Re: super slow car
I'm not going to insult you by suggesting you aren't shifitng your manual car ;-p, but it could just be the auto. tranny in the thing is slipping or going/gone bad. If it's an auto, it may just be staying in 2nd gear and not going into third plus slipping which would make her slow. Try manually shifting through the gears and see if it goes past 2nd or just listen and feel and see if it is going through the gears properly.

Re: super slow car
does the tach say 5 grand and the motor scream like crazy?!?!? or does it say 5 grand and you hardly hear it????
have the alt & batt checked, advance auto, o rileys, and auto zone all do it for free!!! and if you replace the alt more than likely it has a life time warenty
as for the tune up and fixin the what i would think are your valve cover gaskets it shouldnt be more than $300, ask at your local auto parts store if the know a mechanic that does side work and good quality work, you may find a better deal on fixin it that way.
Or why not do it your self, its pretty easy to do.... one of us would be willing to explain/help
and a moderator can and should move this to a V6 post for you
