right on man, thanks for taking the time to write up a nice reply. I know that area is structural, so i will use a bit heavier gauge, but i also plan on having sfc's in as well, which will help stiffen up the car a lot, not to mention the roll cage. But yea, do you have a link to the pictures of the repair?
Anyway, looks like i am too late as you fixed yours already, but here are some pics of what i did:
edit: ok, now it appears i can't even add pictures anymore. i used "manage attachments", browse, upload........but nothing

I think its just getting used to the settings on my welder. I have to tinker with the gas flow, wire speed and power setting some more before

well its been a while and i should have more to update but i don't have pictures. I pulled the dash apart and cleaned up some wiring. Their were some melted wired that i replaced as well, pics of that soon. Had a rain day today at work so i thought i would clean up the rear end before i put it in. I also welded the tubes.
