well its become time to fix my floor in my camaro.
ive pulled the interiour and done a bit of work prior to taking pictures.

I hope that baby has some sentimental value to you, it's not rare. I can pick up an 84 Z roller rust free for $200. I will follow your progress but IMHO third gens are a dime a dozen and with rust like that I would just scrap it

they aren't a dime a dozen in canada. they all have rust here. and to find a rust free car here, expect to pay upwards of 5k.

I didn't realize you were from Canada, I think you could find a rust free roller in NY for next to nothing? It's funny how most of these car parts were made in Canada and they are more expensive over there

more expensive because the chances of finding that mint rust free shell is hard i such a salty/snowy environment.

:Shudder: those pictures brought back some bad memory's for me because im also in Canada and unicorns are just as common around here as third gens are my car was just like that in the same spot but i also had almost nothing for wheel wells but good luck i feel for you

i guess i should mention as far as rust is concerned that is all of it, those 3 spots. And as for cars up here, the rust really is not that bad, if i had shown you the floor previous to me cutting it, wouldn't look so bad.

havent spent alot of time toronto but here is pretty bad in all the time ive been here ive seen maybe 5 thirdgens counting my own i had to drive ten hours to get mine and ten hours back

nope me and dad drove out and came back in seperate cars but it was well worth the day of driving untill i started to find all the gremlins and crap done to it butt shes gettin back to normal

i only paid 200 bucks for the car so all i cared about was how much rust their was. has a rebuilt 305 which runs, was told it was a 700r4, turns out its a th200c 3-speed. and i was also told that their was one patch left in the floor....hard to see all the rust when theirs riveted sheet metal over the rust and black paint everywhere...

wow, best of luck to you. I just patched a hole in the same spot and ive got all that nasty inner fender rust also. hAD to rivet in the patch till i can get a new floorboard this summer than ill be doing exactly what your doing. Good luck thats like 10x scarier than mine. At least your going to save it though.

its really not that bad
one piece for the floor, and then a piece for the rocker.
i will also have to make a new fender mount, as its become rusted to ****.

well today, its a damn nice day here in Toronto, -6 little to no wind, and sunny. perfect for getting some work done. when you don't have a garage you are limited to when you can work on your car.
so i get started, and go to put my first patch in, its a very small piece, right on the firewall, the size of 2 fingers I'd say. so i tack down one side then i go to ad a tack on the other side...guess what i run out of wire...what the **** is that. so i pulled a fender off the car, didn't take long when i cut a hole in the side of it lol.

Subscribing i am away to start on my floor when we get moved into our new house... I'm getting a 3 car garage and have just ordered a big compressor too I would hate to even have to think about doing that kind of work without a garage at all

He's right to some degree...here in Canada its hard to find rust free cars for so cheap....and I have mentioned this many times...cars in Canada are just generally more expensive for some reason ( a 35-40K truck here costs like 20-25K in the U.S.!!)...anyway I bought my 1990 Trans Am GTA for $7000 with no rust at all except for some surface stuff in the t-top area where water sits..Josh

they just cost more, it sucks, but we can always buy from the states.
it sucks working in the driveway doing motor swaps, rear ends, everything lol.

well i welded up a hole today, first time really welding i would say.
anyways here are the pictures. Also added some polished valve covers give that 305 some hope. lol

well i went out to start on the rocker repair, when i noticed someone repaired it once before, and while they were there, they decided to weld the fender to the rocker aswell...
so ive left it and boxed the rocker in. The GFX cover it up, and the POR15 will stop it. Cant beat them all.
Anyways got a few hours in, got the rocker pretty much boxed in, next is the floor. which will be a hell of a lot easier.

Looking good man. The welds do look a bit inconsistent though.

before welding that metal on I would have at least sprayed everything with a rattle can called "Welding primer" which would save the new metal from rusting out as quickly.

okay guys, its almost time to close up the floor and frame, i only have 1 problem, and this is the 4 tranny cross member bolts that bolt to the frame. Now you can see the 2 bolts on the drivers side in the frame in some of the pictures. The bottom one (one towards the rear) is broken, the head has been broken off. I need the nut thats welded to the frame off so i can put my own new one there.
Does anyone has any idea's?

Good job on the seat bucket. The welds look better.
Take a torch to those bolts see if some **** oozes out. They might be thread locked...

Yeah the flip down visors are pretty sweet.
I'd recommend the weld through primer. Its only a few bucks at Canadian Tire and you can prep a few areas for welding spray and weld them later.

If the primer is not sealer dont bother.None sealer primer is like a sponge for water if you going to use that then spray some paint over it to.Nice work looking pretty good

well thats just spray for when im working, so that the welds and bare metal doesn't rust. This way i don't have to put down some primer and grind everyday.

okay so no picture update, but, the broke tranny cross member bolt. Well i took the air chisel to it...bastard came right off, don't know why I didn't think of it before.
Now i need to weld a new bolt down, and i can finally close up the floor and have some decent pictures for you guys with some large areas complete.

well the trans cross member is now fixed on the drivers side...so still got the passenger side. We have had a lot of snow up here, and just have not had weather to work on the cars.
But anyways i got out there today for a few hours.
did a few other things just no pictures, a buddy came by part way through welding that panel down, so that needs to be finished, but she is coming along very nicely.
