shaved a few more pounds

I took out my backseats a long time ago but I never got rid of the seatbelts or the boxes they go into. Earlier today I decided to try and get rid of the electric hach because it doesnt work and rattles alot, so I took that out, used bungie cords to tie it down, then took out those seatbelt boxes. Now my back glass doesnt rattle and I weighed the parts I got rid of, and it turned out to be almost 20lbs. Not alot but hey im just a kid looking for a tenth or two any way I can.

Did you even try to fix the hatch...? Most of the time they are very easy to fix.

Yes but it was missing some important parts I tried alot of different things to keep it from rattling and nothing worked for very long.

Re: shaved a few more pounds

Yea, I shaved some weight too by getting rid of my pesky front seats and seat belts and replacing it with a bucket JB Welded to the floor instead. I also dumped the hood and hatch altogether and drive it like a mud buggy...ton of weight saved there...

What a good idea people could see my shiny breather and having no hach would make for a great party seat during the summer

Re: shaved a few more pounds

My car is nothing special it has much chipped paint, my passenger door dosnt open right because of a minor collision, the front seats are hidious, the carpet is coming up in corners, the rims are staind, the inside is louder then most 4x4s, I dont have emissions to worry about plus Im friends with the guys that do my inspections so any exhaust I want is ok, Id run open header if it would add power, cut weight, and not hurt my motor, basically there's no real limit to what a person can daily drive down here in the dirty south, as long as your headlights arnt in the view of 18 wheelers you can have a truck,(or car) as big and obnoxious as you like. Local police are no factor because they are hicks that dont care. I dont have a job and my daily driver is all I have. I do wish she were in better condition and of course I have enormous plans for her when I get out of college, but really fellas, whats one more bungie cord on my ****** mobile. Some people cut weight by removing collision bars, and headlights, I dont knock, I would if Ididnt need them.

I didnt know I couldnt say that but thats hilarious. How about funny haircut mobile.

Re: shaved a few more pounds

Haha, I love how the OP came in here all happy that he ripped his car up to save some weight and everyone told him to fix it. Don't get me wrong, I agree with them and love my electric hatch more than I should, just funny.

If you do have plans for your car and want to fix it, take the time to do things right the first time. At the rate your going at, your just going to have a pile of **** you can't pay someone to fix.

Re: shaved a few more pounds

Actually noone around here will work on my car. The dealership is like "No we wont touch becouse we never put tbi on an engine of that nature" and small shops are ignorant of tbi systems and especially mine. It was a suprise to me but the truth is I'm on my own with this car, and everything I've replaced and modified I learned how to do by reading in forums on this website before I was even a member. It's not like I beat it with a hammer, I have it in a box in my room. It was 3 bolts to take it off, and 3 bolts to put it back on. about chopping it up I'm not trying to it is able to be put back on so are the seatbelt boxes.

What's so different about your engine? TBI was STOCK on 91 RS.

Re: shaved a few more pounds

Its just got alot of aftermarket parts that they wont mess with. The mechanic asked me a few questions about the internals and pretty much refused to work on it. I originaly took it in because it was having problems cranking, it just needed a new distributor and a few small things.

Re: shaved a few more pounds

I agree with getting a slam latch on the back.

Ive also seen people screw the hatch down. IMO a bungy would let it flex to much, and easy to get into.

Re: shaved a few more pounds

I'm positive somthing would break before it opens. If you try to push up on the spoiler to open it you could break that before it would open, I know it's ghetto, but it's not going to open. Technically it's 3 bungie cords and a small piece of chain.
