I did my drivers door and it was the devil, I was only doing the upper and the spring popped out I ended up using 2 hose clamps and tightening them untill i could fit it back in (i was alone too) then as soon as i finished i closed the door and put my hand through the window don't let this happen to you

did the pin make a big difference, did it get rid of all the door sag. i will have a second pair of hands there so that should make it a little easier. how did you end up putting your hand through the window??.from the hose clamp remark it take it there is a spring compressor you can buy to do the job.if anyone knows where i can pick one up let me know.it can't be all that much to buy one.thanks for the info

Re: installing door pins on 87 iroc

well I simply closed the door by pushing the glass and the hand kept on going thats all i know really, don't let people close the door by the glass. I only did the upper pin and it helped but I really need to do the lower pin I did notice a difference but apparently both makes a world of difference.

You are going to need a door spring compressor, hammer, and probably a punch. When I did mine I found it easier to take the hinge completely off. Not the door, but the body. Take your kick panel off, pull the matting over and there should be 3 thirteen millimeter bolts. The back one is kind of a pain and you will need a small ratchet or wrench to get back to it. It is alot easier to press in the new bushings with the hinge off. If you are replacing one set you might as well do the other too, while have it apart. If the hinge is all wallered out, you are not going to have a good time.

Replacing the pin and bushing will not cause the door to work properly in most cases. If you do a search on here it has been covered a zillion times, our doors are HEAVY and you might as well do it once and do it right.

82 iron what do you mean by do it all at onece, what else is there other than the pins bushings and springs? as far as my comment about will it make the door better i ment will it get rid of the door sag (i mean door drop in my case) thats all i don't expect the door to stop rattleing or wind noise or any other of the little problems i know these doors have, thats a whole other issue in itself

The hinges won't be the same, trust me I have been down that road and ended up in a world of frustration. Please search this entire board for info and do it right, you will be happier in the end and will save yourself some grief. Get the total repair kit, do it once and those heavy doors and yourself will be much happier
