Thats not true. I owned an 87 that had the light on the top of the hatch. I have also seen many other 87s that did as well.

1986 is the only year with the third light on top of the hatch, according to this website tech info. you can also check with iroczone.com and they will tell you the same thing. or you can type in third gen info and check out many other tech sites and they all say it too. i'm no expert, but i have an 86 and i've done my share of home work, and all of my research has said 86 is the only year with high mounted third brake light. 87's have the light in the spoiler

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

Your front shin guard will be an 91-92 style. If the sides have "vents" they will be 91/92 as well. Rear bumper will be slightly different for 91/92 as well.

IIRC, that black single wire may go to a light in the "trunk" area. But more I think, I had a black wire like that in my old RS that went to nothing.

The two wires on the hatch. Could go to a spoiler light which you should have. Or to rear defrost.

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

could those wires be for a power hatch? some camaros came with an electric hatch motor that would pull the hatch down tight once you close it.
just a suggestion.

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

hatch pull down works perfectly. i just wonder why it doesn't have a hatch release. i have the wires that plug into the cargo light however i dont see a switch for it. but i know it works. the wires on the hatch itself is for the brake light what i question is why there is two wires going into that plug on one side then only one coming out the other side of the plug.

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

oh, I didnt notice that. I thought it was hidden due to black behind it. Hum..

there is no switch for the cargo light in rear.. on either of the 3 f-bodys I have worked on. It comes on when doors are opened, or doam light is turned on.

86 on top of the hatch
87-89 in the spoiler
90-92 inside the hatch

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

Just to clarify, the 86s had the third light on the glass for all models. The 87s had them in the spoiler on cars that had spoilers. If you had a Camaro without a spoiler, it was on the back glass just like an 86. All 87 up Z28s and IROC-Zs had them in the spoiler until 91 when they went to the inside of the window.

Not really just didn't have a spoiler. So they had to put it somewhere.

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

And I'm sure they are all very low optioned cars, not even having a spoiler, base models with the smallest engine available, manual windows, locks, transmission, no AC, ect. They were the "Ad" cars. Dealers order them so they can advertise a brand new Camaro for a low, low price. Then you when get to the dealer, you end up buying a more expensive, optioned car.

Re: iroc z hienz 57 what yrs are they from?

I agree, now that I can remember that is how I got my bird back in '86 mine was a base model, with just a AM radio and in the dash was just a speedo and gas guage and shift light, but the selling point for me was that she had a base v/8 with 5 speed (carburated w/ electric choke) and A/C (florida) so it had a little better pick up than a v6 for the time, and it was fun to drive being that it was brand new in all so the suspention was tight and hearing those secondaries open up on the 4 barell open up on the rochester was cool too, all that for just a shade over $9,000 in '86 for a car with no miles
