On the road 2 weeks and 2 days

After 18 months of work, some kid launches himself out of Taco Bell into traffic.

My daughter (her car) wants me to tell you : "Wrap it in bubble wrap and just look at it. Don't ever take it out."

I feel like doing that sometimes, but then I realize it takes the point out of the car.

I really don't think I would handle that situation well. You just finish all the big things on your list and finally have the car running. Then BAM, new fender, door, 1/4 panel repair, repainting, and probably some window regulator swapping gets thrown back on that list. The crap we go through for our cars...

hmmm...not a bad idea

but the idea of the hobby is to enjoy the car as well as look at it. And i really like driving it.

If i ever got hit like that, id cry, it really sucks to see your hard work get all f-ed up by some tool who's not paying attention.

my car rolled away on me a few weeks ago friday night, only about 6-8 feet and bumped into a gaurd rail, put a nice gash in the fender/bumper, and that ruined my whole weekend, i cant imagine what i would do if i got hit.

Re: On the road 2 weeks and 2 days

I hope that kid has insurance & their is a police report. I would even have his or her licesnse suspended for doing something stupid like that. Theseare the risks we take when we work on our cars for so long, but nothing is more satisfying when driving it. If they don't pay up just burn thier house down **evil laugh**

Re: On the road 2 weeks and 2 days

First thing out of his mouth to my daughter was "You ripped the front end off my car!" Fortunately he was gone before I arrived on the scene.

Got police report today. 100% his fault, he was ticketed and listed my daughter's car as undriveable. His Chevy Venture was hauled out of the street and towed away. The T/A limped into a gas station. After the cop left, I kicked the fender back, pushed the wheel liner out the way and drove it home 10 miles. That's 2 vans this car killed.

I'm going to make up some little silloutte stickers for her door like they put on fighter planes. 3 more and she's an ace.

Wow, thats a pretty ignorant comment to make after you t-bone someone. I would normally get mad at a comment like that, but if my car had just got hit, I would be too busy crying.

Are you going to try to save the car? Hopefully the structure of the car is alright and nothing got bent. I say try to save it.

It's getting fixed. She is supposed to get a front end alignment on it today to confirm chassis is o.k. Had it up in the air already and didn't see anything underneath. Another board member says he has the fender, door and quarter patch panel I need. Just 3 hours away.

Paint might take a little longer.

Re: On the road 2 weeks and 2 days

Starting to make some progress on the car. Had to replace bent spindle and get an alignment done first so she could still drive it. Picked up a door at local JY. Looks like the A-pillar got tweaked a couple 3-4mm. Going to try shifting gauge holes on hinges before paying for a pull. Challenger71 hooked me up with a patch panel for the quarter. Started installing that yesterday.

Haven't found a used fender yet...

Re: On the road 2 weeks and 2 days

Patch panel is in and sealed with Rustoleum until it gets painted. Door is hung with relocated holes. Not great, but it will do.
